  1. Interesting and dramatic differences in work ethics of the two countries. Maybe the locals should think about these things.

How long does it take to build a house here? How long should it take to build a house here? Food for thought. (Or train station, or commercial building, or xyz?)

  2. I continue to be amazed at how inept some people are. Why advertise something happening in December in the month after? Why are you wasting my time? Yes, the words in the text say the right date, but the title doesn't. I think the NewsLady should just reject crap like this. How can I believe anything that is written by this guy?

  3. Sielmpre,  I do not know what you are saying. Too obtuse for my brain. Leaving substantive replies to others more capable than me.

The main reason for replying is that I do not see anyone attacking you. It appears that you interpret disagreement or alternative views as an attack. My opinion is that doing so benefits no one.

I am very curious as to why you posted your latest in the manner that you did. It appears to be a scanned printout from a word processor rather than just typing your words directly into this forum. Am I missing something here?

Hope you have a better day tomorrow. O.o

While no one in this forum has said this, I've always had to grimace at people who think there is a cure for "cancer", as if one thing will cure all kinds of different cancers.  But, I know they're nuts when they think governments of pharmaceutical companies try to suppress the "cure", for sinister or financial reasons.  There's frankly more money to be made in cures than in suppressing cures!

    Dear PAJ,

There is a lot of food for thought in your reply. Thank you.

Several year’s ago I finally absorbed the FACT that there are many, many different kinds of cancers. My conclusion from that awakening included awareness that lumping all cancers into one bucket is doing everyone a disservice, maybe even damaging them.

Is the American Cancer Society really working on a cure for all cancers? I hope so, but have my doubts. Read what Wikipedia says about the ACS:

    Quote

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer. Established in 1913, the society is organized into eleven geographical divisions of both medical and lay volunteers operating in more than 900 offices throughout the United States.[2][3] Its home office is located in the American Cancer Society Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The ACS publishes the journals CancerCA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians and Cancer Cytopathology.[4]

The ACS is organized geographically. Huh??? Shouldn’t it be organized based on biophysics or cytopathologies?

Your last sentence was something that I never considered before. I need time to think about that statement. Wow!

Not sure what the the real solution will be, but I do hope it comes soon.

Our Christmas Eve visitor hasn't shown any interest in leaving, and the others don’t seem to mind, so I guess she’s supposed to be here until we can help her get home.

Pretty sure she may have missed a critical appointment at the orthodontist somewhere along life’s path which should help identify her.

This sweet old girl is well cared for and someone surely must be missing her.

It's not complaining when simple solutions are available.

According to the dictionaries that I use, that is not a correct statement.

“...expressing dissatisfaction, pain, uneasiness, censure, resentment, or grief; finding fault...” or “...expressing pain, dissatisfaction, or resentment...”, etc., etc.

    You were complaining.

I could go on but it's beyond the scope of this discussion and gringos won't want to hear it.

The first half of that sentence was correct IMO, but there is nothing that I’ve seen that says you can’t start another topic.

On the second part of that sentence, I am disappointed to read that you think so little of my interest or capacity to engage conversationally in certain subjects. Maybe I should go back into my cave so as to spare the community of my shortcomings. Thank you for your decision.

Sorry. Nope. That ain’t gonna happen. O.o

P.S., sorry about the delay in seeing your reply. The last several days have been busy for me.

  7. A couple of years ago I got one at La Casa de Batterias in David. The store is located on the corner of two 1-way streets. From town center (the main parque) if you are directly in front of the church, then keep going on that 1-way street toward the airport. When you get to a stop sign for what I am told was the first 1-way street in David, then look on your left. They even tested the old battery, and installed and tested the new one. Nice people and reasonable prices. Sometimes very busy.

    CLARIFICATION:

I just checked and much to my surprise this discussion's title had been changed.  When I created this discussion the title was:

"Another Day Without Water in Bajo Boquete"

The title apparently has been changed to:

"Another Day Without Water in Bajo Boquete, and Water Quality Issues"

Which completely changed the scope of the discussion and makes it appear that I'm complaining about water quality.  For the record, I have not complained about the quality of water in Boquete.  I'm expressing my dissatisfaction with the lack of availability of water during a basic routine sewer/water project.

    Moderators,

I  completely understand that this is your website and your rules apply, however, what prevents you from changing my original title to:

"Another Day Without Water in Bajo Boquete, Water Quality Issues, and Panamanians"

In the event I expressed my disappointment about a response from a Boquete government official on a particular subject?  Nothing.  A simple change can have far reaching implications.

Siempre, when I first read this reply, I jumped on board with you. And then I read:

I think your concerns may be unfounded, Siempre. Your initial post makes clear what your concern is, and everyone understands that discussions routinely move outside the bounds of the original post. The change in the title alerts readers to what is being discussed and makes the quality-of-water issue searchable.

which caused me to stop and reflect on your reply. (As an aside, I need to be careful here on this web site because I have been taken to task for being "caustic" was their word when I got a bit too aggressive in my words. They said I was attacking people, which is not permitted. I groused about that comeuppance for a while, including boycotting this web site. And then I went back and reread what I had written, and I ended up having to agree with them. What I was writing was how things are done on that cesspool of a web site called Ning.

Anyway, Bonnie's reply caused me to be more analytical. I concluded that she was correct. The topic that Siempre started had a title that he gave it. But then it was the members here who took the subject in a different but related direction. And so the owners updated the title to reflect what was contained in the topic. The owners responded to the members content, and were not the cause for it to go in a different but related direction. Does that not sound like good management to you?

But then you came back this morning, and this is what got my dander up.

However, if they don't read the discussion they won't discover that and just think I'm complaining.

That won't be a problem moving forward since I'll be very cautious as to what I post since god knows how it could be changed and hence make me look.

Siempre, you ARE COMPLAINING. Everyone on this web site sees that. Get over it. Slow down and take a deep breath. BTW, it is okay to complain.

Personalty speaking, I am finding this expanded subject matter to be very enlightening. I am learning a lot here. And isn't that what these kind of web sites is about?

For the web site owners, I hope you don't take my comments here as attacking a person. I am just trying to help him see the value of how this topic turned.

  9. Hampton brings up an interesting point. My experience says that it is good business procedure to do a feasibility study up front. Unlike Hampton who suggests it is only about money, a feasibility study usually addresses other aspects of a large project, such as technical challenges, environmental issues, political winds, public interest and support, etc., etc.

I disagree with his last sentence, which is his opinion.

I don’t understand the continuing interest in connecting Panama City with Costa Rica. Can someone help me understand why Costa Rica is so important to Panama, other than being a neighboring country?

If a train is built, I doubt that I will live long enough to see it in operation.

As for the AAC Hotline, it is no longer financially viable.

Agree with 2Sailors. Bring on the aspirin. My head hurts. I didn’t need or want a history of the AAC group. IMO Gregory could benefit by taking an effective writing skills course. He is trying to be nice, but writes from a defensive posture. When I see such writing style (some people call it spin) I wonder about the real story behind the rosy picture that he paints.

To my way of thinking this lengthy diatribe is telling us the one sentence that I quoted here. AAC is shutting down. Rodney Direct is providing his helpline service (and doing a good job from what I hear) and is graciously providing complementary services to the now former AAC subscribers. I think that is what Gregory is saying.

It now seems as if Gregory is going into the health insurance brokerage business, but I am not clear on that.

My thinking is that AAC did not have a good business plan and it eventually caught up with that group.

I wish all of those involved in these activities all the best. Our community has benefited and grown. And it had to be a lot of time and energy expended over these past several years. And now we move on, but with Rodney filling the lead position.

I don't think you have any idea how much work goes into News Boquete.

When I read the Pat and Sailor postings, I got three impressions, appreciation for what News Lady does, support for not publishing emails with missing but important information, and an offering of one way to solve the matter. Nothing negative in any of that.

I was not aware, but from what Keith writes News Lady pays for that service out of her pocket. Wow, what a generous and caring person she is.
