  3. View in a web browser Our Butterfly Volunteer Program We are looking to ramp up our Butterfly House Volunteer program in the Spirit of our Founder Ralph B Dessau to cover Saturday and Sunday as well as week days. If anyone is interested in volunteering over the weekend, please let us know. The Butterfly House is located on the Honey Farm home of Miel Boquetena in Los Naranjos. Thank you community as the last time we sent out this email, we added 10 more volunteers and are now working with two people or more each day to help us breed our butterflies during the week. We went from one per day to two as it seemed to be fun for the volunteers and there was a lot of interest, it has been great for us too. A great success for our staff, our business as well as the volunteers who have met new people, learned fun things and become part of our family and team. As a re-cap: We are looking for residents who would like to spend Saturday or Sunday morning with us helping us take care of our caterpillars and rear butterflies for the Ralph Dessau Butterfly House in Boquete. Also, to provide English support in the butterfly house and for honey, honey wine and coffee tastings. We have 8 full time Panamanian staff members on the farm, they are all trying to learn better English and would enjoy practicing with you. Skills needed: Passion for nature, not afraid of bugs. Interested in plants and able to learn what different host plants look like. Good with people and enjoy meeting new people. Good with hands, and good vision (we do have magnifying glasses) Some of the work with butterfly eggs and caterpillars is delicate. We offer: - Unlimited coffee and a bag of coffee a week and wholesale prices on honey and gift items in the shop - Access to our team who are very knowledgable in plants and wildlife as well as Panamanian life and can practice Spanish - Free tours on the farm and chance to meet lots of interesting visitors and help with our school tours and grow with us as we build this operation and expand into doing more not for profit work. Contact mielboquetena@gmail.com or 67130043 if interested. We are also Boquetebutterflies on Instagram if you would like to see some pictures. 12. Two lovely, healthy tripods are looking for their forever home: Samuel and Kiss We know it is hard to find a forever home for not-so-perfect adult pets. After all, most people prefer a happy, healthy, 100% complete puppy over a tripod that is a year and a half or two years old. But there are a couple of things that these two guys have to offer. They are beyond the out-of-control, attention-demanding, time-consuming and in many cases destructive puppy phase. They are more balanced and quiet than puppies. They are already a good watch dog. They are totally house-trained. And of course, they have been dewormed, vaccinated and neutered like all our animals that are ready for their adoption. They walk and run fine on three legs and require nothing special except for a terrain that's fenced and preferably a bit level, although they can walk up and down a cow trail with ease. SAMUEL (SAM) Sam was rescued by a good Samaritan in David a few months after he was hit by a car. His leg turned out to be too infected and the infection was already in the bone, so his leg could not be saved. He also had tick fever which slowed down his recovery. Now, he is super healthy and happy. His recovery was supported by ARF (Adopt Rescue Foster Boquete) and many donations. He is estimated to be about 2 years old. KISS Kiss was brought to the spay/neuter clinic in Boquete. He was living on a construction site but no one could take care of his injured foot and leg. After having his leg amputated, he recovered quickly and he is now ready for his forever, loving family. He is about 1.5 years old and loves toys and playing. If you would consider giving one of these lovely boys a permanent home, or if you know someone who might , or if you have any questions, please contact us. We are more than happy to arrange a meet-and-greet with these dogs. Our contact information is: Phone 6630-4383 (incl. Whatsapp) E-mail info@lacasadelosanimales.org

  17. I have expanded my range of artisan woodturnings to include 7" long single cigar tubes made from Panamanian woods. The matching caps have o-rings that seal the tubes tightly and securely. Each tube is made by hand on my wood lather here in Boquete, sanded smooth, and finished with a buffed-on coat of pure Brazilian carnauba wax. The current collection of these finely crafted tubes are priced from $30 - 40 each. I am also turning 9" wooden plates for my friend, Richar Huisa Mamani, a local Panamanian artist who is an excellent painter as well as a jewelry maker. I will have two of Richar's beautiful hand-painted plates available tomorrow - one featuring a quetzal and the other a scarlet macaw. $40 each. -- David van Harn Woodturning Artisan Boquete, Chiriqui, Panama
  18. Several people are interested in creating a place that would offer housing and services for those of us who wish to remain here for the rest of their lives, in an environment that is SAFE and COMFORTABLE, when they are no longer able to live independently. The book BEING MORTAL, Medicine and What Matters In The End is one that should be read by everyone because it brings to the forefront the types of issues we will all face as we age. We strongly recommend this book to everyone. It is available in a Kindle version on Amazon, as well as in print (click the link above). If you feel inclined to know more about the project we are working on here in Boquete, please complete our SURVEY, and indicate your preferences. You can also join the core group in the planning stages....we need people with all kinds of talents to lend their expertise to the project. Click here to complete the short survey. Thank you, Penny Ripple & Linda Hart
