  5. 10:30 in the BCP Theater Tuesday October 11 – Yira De Alvarado and Judith Tovar will speak about their work with Nutre Hogar of Chiriqui. They will be introduced to the Boquete community by Phillip McGuigan, Price Peterson, and Pedro Detresno (shows you the importance of this program). Nutre Hogar is a private organization created in 1988 by Monsignor Romulo Emiliani and a group of volunteers, in order to recover and prevent severe malnutrition of children of the most impoverished communities of our country. Nutre Hogar Chiriqui is a non-profit organization that treats 40 severely malnourished children who are transferred from the Malnutrition Ward at Hospital Materno Infantil Jose Domingo De Obaldia. They attend to the children’s needs with medicine, dietary supplements, education, and MUCH LOVE. To give you an understanding of the scope of their Mission, they need $25,000.00 per month to maintain operations. http://nutrehogar.org/ Tuesday October 18 – Meet the Ambassador, the Wardens, and the Consular Agent. We will introduce Hank Landis and Bonnie Williams, the two new U.S. wardens, Tricia Daugherty, the British Consular Agent, and from the Canadian Embassy in Panama: Consul and First Secretary Mika Kosaki Oldham, Ambassador Anna-Karine Asselin, and Consular Officer, Ms. Debora De Herrera. Darrell will address the 10 cultural differences between Latino and Gringo cultures and explain how they can harmoniously work together. Luz Graciela Joly Adames, Tenured Professor of Anthology, Department of History, Faculty of Humanities, Autonomous University of Chiriqui, will translate. Tuesday, Feb. 7 – Lloyd Cripe “the weatherman” talks about the micro-climates and weather in the Boquete area and how it has changed. Tuesday, Feb. 14 – Robert Bezeu, founder and developer of the “Plastic Bottle Village” development on Isla Colon in Bocas del Toro, will speak about his labor of love on Valentines Day. This eco-residential community will eventually consist of 120 homes built out of recycled plastic bottles. U.S. Embassy Panama Consular Section Federal Benefits Unit As part of the Foreign Enforcement Program, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has recently informed us that there are still over 500 Social Security recipients residing in Panama who have not returned the required “Proof of Life” report to the U.S. Social Security Administration form. If you have not yet returned your proof of life form, please do so immediately. Please note that the Social Security Administration will suspend your benefits in February 2017 if they do not receive the completed form by December 31, 2016. If you are receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration and wish to know if you are required to complete the proof of life form this year, please visit http://panama.usembassy.gov/ssai.html. As soon as you receive the form, please answer the questions applicable to you and sign it. Please make and keep a copy of the form for your records before mailing the completed and signed form to the SSA in the preprinted envelope that is included in the package along with the form. All SSA recipients should receive the proof of life form in the mail by October. If by the end of October you have not received and returned your report to the U.S. Social Security Administration, please contact the Federal Benefits Unit by sending an e-mail to Panama-FBU@state.gov, to receive the form and instructions on how to submit the form. A lot has been going on in Colibrí, amazing new things have been cooking As some of you might know, we have a new team in the kitchen and have been working with a consulting chef from Caliope Restaurant, rated #1 out of 752 restaurants in Panama City. We have been trying out new recipes and are offering them as specials right now for you to try out! We will keep our best sellers in the menu, will modify and improve some dishes and will bring new and exciting new dishes for the high season! Some of the new things you can try out are our ribs, cooked in a red wine sauce at a low temperature over night in our wood oven and melt in your mouth delicious! (these have been a BIG success!), our pork loin covered in a plantain crust with a coffee and raspadura sauce with a side of yucca mash and our new and improved lamburger! You can expect to see many more dishes coming from our wood oven and an exciting new lunch menu for the high season, stay tuned!In other news, we will be closing from October 10th to October 19th, coming back on Thursday, October 20th. HOW TO PAY FOR PASSPORT AND NOTARIAL SERVICES (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY): The Embassy will only accept payment by local banker’s cashier check(known in Spanish as “Cheque Certificado”) made payable to “U.S. Embassy Panama”, issued within the past five months. The Embassy will NOT accept cash or credit card payments. The notarial fee is $50 per each signature of the Consular Officer. A list of passport fees can be found here. Other than passport and notarial services, all other services are no-fee. WHAT TO BRING FOR PASSPORT, NOTARIAL, ABSENTEE VOTING, AND LPR ABANDONMENT SERVICES: Passports: For adult passport renewals (remember that you can complete passport renewals by mail!), in addition to the completed DS-82 application, provide one recent color photo with a white background that measures 5x5 cm (2X2 inches), your passport, and a photocopy of the photo page of your passport. The fee for an adult passport renewal is currently $110. If your previous passport was lost or stolen you will also need to bring a copy of the police report and the fee for the new passport is $135. For minor passport renewals, in addition to the completed DS-11 application, bring a copy of the photo page of the minor’s passport, a copy of both parents’ passports /cedulas, one recent color photo with a white background that measures 5x5 cm (2X2 inches) and a copy of the minor’s birth certificate, in addition to the original birth certificate and passport/ cedulas. The fee is currently $105.00 for a minor (under 16) passport renewal. The minor and both parents or guardians must appear in person. If only one parent is present in Panama, the “Statement of Consent from Absent Parent” Form DS-3053, notarized in the U.S., is required. Please note that the DS-3053 will not be accepted if notarized in Panama. Notarizations: Here is the link with details. If you are requesting the notarization of your driver’s license, bring a photocopy of the front and back page of your license, as well as your license. If you are requesting notarization of benefits documents, bring the original and a copy of the document(s) showing the amount of benefits you receive monthly or annually. The notarial fee is $50.00 for each signature of the Consular Officer. Voting: Bring your completed ballot! If you haven’t yet registered to receive your absentee ballot, here is a link with information on registering. LPR Abandonment: Bring completed form I-407 and a photocopy of your Permanent Resident Card, as well as your Permanent Resident Card. WHAT TO BRING FOR FEDERAL BENEFITS SERVICES (please bring legible copies of all documents to be submitted): SSA Proof of Life: If you are required to comply with this requirement this year (i.e. your SSN ends in 00 thru 49; you receive benefits for someone else; you are age 90 or over), please bring your cedula or passport. Medicare Enrollment/Cancellation: To enroll in Medicare, you should complete and sign this form and to cancel your enrollment please complete and sign this form. Social Security Replacement Card: Bring a copy of your valid U.S. passport and completed form SS-5FS. Social Security Card for child under 12: Bring a copy of the U.S. passport for one of the parents, the child’s “copia integra” birth certificate, and the child’s U.S. passport (as well as copies) as well as completed form SS-5FS. Change of Address for Social Security: Bring your current passport or cedula.   20. Hi Everyone!! It's been a fantastic few weeks at The Garden Restaurant and Country Store. We tested some new items that went over very well, we moved up the ladder on tripadvisor, and the most exciting news will be announced in the weeks to come! You don't want to miss this announcement!!! We tested a taco salad, spicy Asian salad, tuna melt and an incredible burrito loaded with tenderly smoked, simmered beef seasoned with sweet peppers and onions, and stuffed with refried beans. We are very pleased by all your feedback! It has been one of the secret ingredients needed to succeed. Let's talk breakfast! We have started serving breakfast on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 10:30 am. With all the positive response, it seems to have touched a sweet spot. Our smoked trout dish with crusty bread, poached eggs, watercress and roasted potatoes for $6, is out of this world (soon to be topped off with Hollandaise sauce which will make it even better!) Another combination that's hard to beat is the American Classic breakfast with turkey bacon, turkey sausage, 2 eggs any style, roasted potatoes and whole wheat toast for $6. On the lighter side is a Fruit and Cheese plate. Wanting to take charge of your day? We have provided an á la carte menu so you can build your own breakfast. All set breakfast dishes range from $4-$6, comes with 1 cup of tea or coffee and can be made gluten free!
