  3. We are urgently seeking foster or forever homes for some of our animals. The current fosters are leaving for extended periods of time and we need to find a new place where they can lay their heads. If you can help, please contact us. ARF provides all food and medical care (if needed) for our animals. Phyfer is a beautiful dog. She is about 5 now. Tall and slender, with a sway in her walk and a beautiful face and voice Phyfer is now ready for her permanent home. Pearl is a six year old, spayed and vaccinated female. She is an indoor and outdoor dog. She is calm and sweet, gets along with cats (but not other dogs) and likes to be with her humans. She walks well on a leash, comes when you call her and is an excellent watch dog. Rayito: You can truthfully say Rayito is strikingly cute, VERY playful and a bundle of energy. He would be an exceptional soccer player and also gets very excited about bugs, crumpled tinfoil and pull toys-basically anything that moves or that he can move. He is fully litter trained. Rayito is about 6 months old. Sunshine She is a bit shy, docile but very talkative. She loves to be stroked and scratched and has a good motor. She is litter trained, likes to go outside but is mainly an indoor cat. Meet Mister. He is so lovable and snuggly. He really loves his head scratches or simply just lying next to you on the couch. He is an older cat and likes to sleep but call him and he will be happy to come out to say hi. He has been fixed and has his vaccinations. He will warm your heart with his affection! He wants a home with other cats but he would be fine just by himself. Miss Molly is a five year old affectionate indoor/outdoor cat who is litter box trained. She needs to be the only cat in the household because she is territorial. She is independent and low maintenance, not requiring a lot other than a home to call her own and a family to love her. 6. The Boquete Rotary Club works in many ways for the community. Here in Boquete we do most of our work silently. We want to share with the community our latest projects. We have been working at the Boquete MINSA Health Clinic partnering with other Rotary Clubs from USA. As a result, we have built secure waste management facilities for the infectious and general regular waste generated by the clinic. We have also built new bathrooms for the clinic's clients. The clinic and some examining rooms have been painted with fresh colors and cartoon characters to make it a less intimidating place for the children, pregnant women and other patients that rely on this public clinic. For many years we have been providing student and teacher supplies and constructed improved facilities for the Public Schools in the Boquete and Potrerillos communities. We have provided training and equipment for the local firefighters and police, partnering with Rotarians from Canada. We have brought medical teams to Panama to provide services to remote villages across western Panama. We provide scholarships to deserving students in the area. We bring teachers to Panama each year to provide teacher training seminars, in coordination with MEDUCA, the Panama Education Ministry. Select teachers are also sent to the US each year at Rotary expense to improve their teaching skills. Now we have our biggest ongoing project in Boquete: The TROPEZÓN PARK. This park was functioning, but in very bad shape. No drinking fountain, no bathrooms, little grass to speak of. Lots of stones and uneven ground for children to play "futbol" ( soccer ). The Boquete Rotary Club has undertaken a renovation of this Park to give the children of Boquete a safe place to play. A kiosk has been built and a bathroom is in undergoing construction. Fencing has been installed, and plans are to level the field and place sod to create a good soccer field We would like to get the whole community of Boquete involved. Businesses, Civic Clubs, and Panamanian and Foreign Boquete residents. In this way, everyone will be proud of their contribution to help Boquete look beautiful and providing a safe park for our children. Please come tomorrow to the Tuesday Market, visit our Rotary Table to learn about this wonderful project and help us out with a donation. Any amount of money you can donate towards this park will contribute to a better Boquete. You could sign our donation list there. We will be publishing the amounts raised every week via newsboquete. We are located outside the Hexagon room, on the left side as you come in to the Market. Thank you so much for supporting this Boquete project that we are building in front of everyone's. 11. LOST DOG - Rio the dog was lost in Potrerillos Abajo around 8am on April 30. He is brown, 45 pounds, likes to run and chase cows in the fields. He has a brown collar with his name "Rio" and some phone numbers. We are worried that he could've been kicked by a cow and could be hurt. He will be quite skittish if startled. Last seen April 30 early morning in Potrerillos Abajo and was heading north through cow pastures either towards Volcan, Potrerillos Arriba, or Palmira. He is fast and could be anywhere by now, possibly heading toward Volcancito or Bajo Boquete if he can make it that far, but may accidentally go towards Volcan, or return to Potrerillos to find his brother Remo. He was lost from the Howling Success dog kennel, near Zapadora and the police station in Potrerillos. We are worried and miss him and are currently in the USA and can't be actively searching for him until we return on Wednesday. Anything helps, please notify anyone in these areas and keep watching for him. We will offer a reward for anything that can help find him. 14. Yes, the Lightning Season is upon us...is your home protected? If you have panel mount surge protectors that use indicator lights, you don't have the level of protection you've been led to believe. These products use components that degrade over time and should be replaced every 3-5 years. They also allow between 400-600 volts to pass to your 120 volt equipment before they even start to work...not good! I install the highest quality panel mount surge protectors in a set of two, one for lightning and the other for utility surges. At $250 installed (locally), this set is a bargain that you don't want to be without. No degrading components, no indicator lights, no excessive voltages passed through to your valuable equipment. If you want true Whole House Protection, your Cable TV, Telephone, Internet Radio wires need dedicated surge protectors separate from the panel mount units. Lightning can travel on ANY wire that enters the building and I know of many people who have sustained considerable lightning damage through the Cable Onda (cable TV) service wire. Don't delay, surges can happen at any time, in any season. 18. 10:30 in the BCP Theater Tuesday, May 2 – Baru’s Eruptions and Aftermath - A Geologist’s Observations. Volcan Baru, even as a “dead" volcano, looms ominously on our western horizon. Will it ever erupt again, could it? Dr. Paul Myers retired geology professor (University of Wisconsin, 1968-1997), with considerable volcano experience will share his ”observations” of Baru and what they may reveal of its violent past, even what they might mean for the future. Why doesn’t Baru “look like” a typical volcano? Why no lava flows? What’s the origin of all the steep-walled terraces and deep, rugged canyons? No matter how good you are - in the Boquete area, no one is an “expert”. More questions than answers. Dr. Myers will distribute hand-outs. Tuesday, May 9 – Evolution of the sports of Rock Climbing & Slacklining in Panama in general and Boquete in particular. Program presented by Cesar Augusto Melendez - Panama's first proffessional rock Climber & Sponsored World athlete and Ruben Dario Camarena - Panama's first Highliner. When people leave this talk they will have the tools they need for Windows or Mac's and be able to defend and keep their computers and themselves safe. Tuesday, May 23 – Dr. Bill McGraw will give a talk on the research he has done on coral reefs of Panama. Dr Bill Has been studying coral reefs in Panama for over 5 years and has documented the effects of the most intense el nino (2015-2017) in the past 25 years that has caused increased ocean temperatures and bleaching of coral (newaquatechpanama.com). He has visited every major reef system in Panama and has a scientific paper published in the Journal of Reef Encounters, regarding the el nino effect on corals at the Secas Islands., Did you know that corals have been reported to have been reduced by 50% in the Caribbean area of Panama during the past 30 years? Thankfully, although there has been widespread coral mortality, corals have found a way to adapt and survive the higher temperatures. Come and find out how they are doing it and what we can do to ensure the survival of one of the planet's greatest treasures. Go here to read more about Dr. McGraw’s work in Panama saving the shrimping industry and visit his website at www.newaquatechpanama.com Tuesday, May 30 – Melissa Vallarino, owner of Academia International Boquete will speak on education in Panama. This is a very entertaining talk and will teach us all something about this place we call home. 19. Hi.... My name is Beau (short for Beauregard) and I'm almost 2 years old. I was found wandering around Los Molinos all shaggy and hungry. Penny and Jim gave me a foster home while I was neutered, given my shots and groomed. I now weight about 22 pounds and will eat anything you give me. Now I'm ready for my forever home. My hope is that a loving person will adopt me. I'm healthy, happy and friendly. I am crate trained and am quiet all night. I wake up with my tail wagging and ready for fun. At night I love to snuggle up in a lap or lie on my back next to my human. I get along very well with other dogs and children and I love to play with toys...especially if they squeek. So....please come see me Tuesday at the Market where I will be waiting to meet you. You'll know me by my ever-waging tail and friendly greeting. Or, you can call my foster mom, Penny Ripple, at 6948-8255 to beat the rush. You'll fall in love with me and can take me right home with you. Beau Boy
