This section was very steep!Heading to the Rio Quisisa crossing. No bridge construction yet. Other side of Rio Quisisa. A beautiful road along the river.Last week we hiked from Brisas across the canyon up the other side and the trail ended at the new road extensions going in. We took a right turn and after 2hours and about 4 miles, we ended in Palmira Arriba.
Today we hiked the opposite way to Potrerillos. Lot's of bridge work and workers about!

I was there as well and recall the same comments " “I don’t know” “I”ll have to get back to you on that”. There were several folks asking him questions about problems they were having with getting their fingerprints for the FBI report. I thought his answer to them was a bit evasive. I was not too impressed with his overall engagement with the folks in attendance. Felt more like a PR event.

Just read the Kindle version of Getting Familiar with David, Panama, a Guide by Nanette Witmir. She mentioned a few restaurants we had not heard of:
Oh Toro Ramen & Sushi, apparently there are several in Panama, the website has great info.https://www.google.com/maps/place/Oh-Toro+Ramen+%26+Sushi/@8.4357525,-82.4251366,18z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x67af48ce13bd77e5!8m2!3d8.4359011!4d-82.4245465
Feta Restaurant
Restaurant La Tipica
Restaurant Stylo, inside the Hotel Ciudad de David
They are all listed on Trip Advisor with pretty good reviews. Nice to have more options for David. Does anyone have any experiences with these restaurants?

Does anyone know what the requirements are and the average cost is to obtain permanent residency in Costa Rica?

Ate there today. We thought it was ok. Nice atmosphere, fair prices, good size portions, and good service. The food just did not taste like Mexican food. Very bland and lacking true Mexican flavors. The salsas were all from a can. Burricicos in Volcan is still the better choice.

Just sent the Diputada a message congratulating her on the passage of the above legislation, and asking the status of her initiative to treat minors convicted of serious crimes with more severity.
As I noted a few weeks back, there are recent cases where tougher penalties have been applied.

Yep, saw that. Very funny. But I wonder how many people who received those emails and actually are regretting not replying to them?

Another plus, this road improvement will make it safer for climbers and make it easier to remove all the trash. Susan did this hike last year on an overnight and was amazed at all the trash at the summit. Well over 30 folks were camping out with no bathroom facilities! Come morning all the 4 x 4's showed up with a lot more people. They need to increase the fee to hike to the summit to pay for improvements and facilities and have a limit on how many people can go up.

Members of Panama religious organizations who have been visibly absent from protests against impunity and corruption, and have been silent about the revelations of electoral fraud by the country’s lawmakers, turned out in their hundreds on Tuesday, March 6, to protest civil marriage of gay couples and “gender ideology.”
So that is their priority? Gender ideology? The heck with impunity, corruption, and electoral fraud. Really?
"threatened by “gender ideology” and marriage between people of the same sex".
This is a threat to them?

This is a great step in the right direction!

Awesome performer!

Heard some folks drove up the road in their 4 x 4. They said it was graded all the way to the summit and actually driveable!

Just curious. Does Panama have driver's education in the high schools? Learners permit? By law, what are the instructional requirements to pass in order to get your drivers license for the first time?
I know the eye, a hearing test is required but what drivers training is needed?

Tide laundry detergent, and the price now is $31.99,
That is outrageous. Time to get detergent in Mandarin.

Easy fix. Last time I got my 25# tank filled it only cost $5.00.
In Guatemala, the government gives people the tanks but they still have to pay for the refills. Consequently, they do not refill them and resort to cutting down the very few trees they have left for firewood.

Probably one of the many reasons Panama has a subsidy on the price of the tanks.

“This sure is the truth!” Yeah but.........what about better road system; better electrical system; better telephone system, etc. I think the real problems could be lack of planning, knowledge, and corruption.
A poor education system is the root of all these conditions is my thinking.
Now your dreaming!

Update on the new Potrerillos/Palmira road extensions
in Public Infrastructure (Roadways, Signage, Lighting, Parking, Pipelines, High Tension Transmission Lines, Hydroelectric Dams, etc.)
Posted
BTW, as far as we could see there are 4 bridges going in. Footings and pile driving have started for 3 of them. There are some very steep and tight corners on some parts of the road. More gravel is laid closer to Potrerillos side then Palmira side.No bridge work for the Rio Quisisa crossing yet. But that section, a lot, and I mean a lot, of earth, has been moved and they have a lot more to go. That shows in the steep climb down picture. The question is where is all the earth being taken too?
