Magnitude 7.8 earthquake shook Honduras; Concern about a Tsunami

Based on a Twitter alert from the USGS, a large earthquake occurred off the Caribbean coast of Honduras about 9:51PM, January 9th. Sinaproc is discounting a tsunami that would affect Panama.


A magnitude 7.8 earthquake shook Honduras Caribbean coast on Tuesday night, according to reports from the United States Geological Service. A tsunami alert remains active and includes Panama.

Reassessed as a 7.6 magnitude.
