Marcelyn
Anyone have current status of the fire in the Duty Free Zone. I'm told the warehouse area is involved, not the shopping section, but I missed the full announcement on TV last night. Any information appreciated. Thanks. Keith Woolford
The fire finally came under control early this morning source Telemetro A large-scale fire consumed the night this Friday, warehouses located in the France Field area, Free Zone Colon. After 11:00 p.m. when not yet had controlled the fire, it was confirmed that the fire consumed a dozen bodegas and had spread to other galley with at least 20 other warehouses The director of the Fire Brigade, Jaime Villar said earlier that within the bodegas there is material such as cloth, wood, household items and appliances. "That's why we have this fire of great magnitude," he said. About 50 firefighters are in the area, while the power supply is suspended in order to continue the work of the extinction. The Firemen do a hard work against the fire, this because they face the low water pressure. Villar announced that due to the fatigue on the part of the staff three buses were brought in with volunteer firefighters from the city of Colon. To address the emergency required initially 11 tankers, the Fire Department, the company Cusa and the Panama Canal that have come to strengthen the extinction. Meanwhile, the vice president of the Association of Users of the Colon Free Zone, Severo Sousa showed concern in Rangefinder reports due to the lack of water. In fact, firefighters are try to use the sea water. Villar explained that they need water in order to be able to control the incident and as well order the firemen not to enter the bodgeas, an action that has not been able to be carried out by the high temperatures in the place. source Telemetro Edited July 15, 2017 by Keith Woolford
Marcelyn
Friends in Panama City tell me this fire was limited to ten warehouses located in the France Field location, some distance from the Duty Free Zone shopping area. Said fires were caused by a tornado that came off the Caribbean waters. A phenomenon.
