Here's our schedule for the month of June... with new events added all the time -- so feel free to respond to this email to be included on the Fénix mailing list to be 'up to the moment' in the happenings. :-) Scheduled Events: Mental Health 101 Thursday, June 8th, 11:00 - 12:30 pm A free-for-all talk, lead by Blaise Dismer, M.S.W. As part of our expanding Education Series, Blaise Dismer, M.S.W. will be sharing a "brass tacks" paradigm for a basic understanding of mental / emotional disorders and today's treatments. Depression and anxiety are explained. An overview of possible causes and treatments, including 'talk therapy', cognitive behavior therapy and medication intervention. Join us… as we continue to learn, share, grow and explore the world around us and within us! Writers Read Group Friday, June 9th, 2:00 - 5:00 pm Novelists, Poets, Bloggers, Playwrights, Short Story Writers. Come listen. Come Participate! Full Moon Drum Jam Friday, June 9th, 6:00 pm All are welcome to join the circle - experienced or first timers. There will be some "loaner" drums, but bring your own if you have one. This is a great community event for anyone who would like to experience something a little different. Come join in or just listen or dance. Learn Euchre Saturday, June 10th, 1:00 pm Come learn how to play the popular card game Euchre DJ Mike DANCE PARTY! “Mama Told Me Not To Come” Saturday, June 10th, 6:30 - 9:30 pm Rock, Pop, Soul.... from the 60's, 70's, and beyond. This is guaranteed to be a FUN TIME!!! Event is free to all. Boquete ArtWorks Friday, June 16th, 3:00 pm Topic to be announced Plant Exchange Saturday, June 17th 10:30 am Bring your bulbs, seeds, rooted cuttings, divisions, cuttings, etc... This event will be lead by Allison “Make Art” Sip & Paint ——> NEW EVENT!!! Saturday, June 17th 4:00 - 6:00 pm Come have fun and make art! You will be instructed in creating a painting, supplies will be included (canvas, paints, brushes)… you will leave with a unique piece of art that YOU created! Price is $20 / person and includes a glass of wine, or beer, or soda, or bottle of water. *** please note, reservations are encouraged. If enough interest is generating, this will become a regular event! (Also alternating in Spanish and English... this first one will be lead in English.) Wednesdays 1:00 pm — Mexican Train (come early at 12:30 pm to learn or teach!) 4:00 - 6:00 pm — Therapeutic Drumming Have fun and reap the health benefits of community drumming. No experience necessary and there are usually a few loaner drums available if you don't have one of your own. Drummers and listeners alike -- all are welcome! (This occurs weekly, unless there is a Full Moon Drum Circle that usurps it.) Thursdays 5:00 - 7:00 pm — Dance Night Professional Instructor 'Dan' has volunteered to offer instruction in Beginner Bachata, Salsa, and 'social' Swing Dance, starting at 5 pm. $2.00 entrance requested for Fénix Cafe to keep the dancin' floor under your feet, and the lights shining down on those pretty shoes. Fridays Usually always something!!! "First Friday" Event, 2nd Friday Writer's Read, 3rd Friday Boquete Artworks, etc. .... Stay alert! Saturdays 10:45 am — Single Seniors This is a new group that is forming! :-) And YOU are invited. Come meet other 'senior singles' and co-create a group that will come together to support, share, and mingle. 1:00 pm — Game Day Come play! Euchre, Mexican Train... and more! The cafe has Mexican Train sets, playing cards, backgammon, scrabble, "Crimes Against Humanity", Trivia, Connect Four... whatever your flavor, it's here! *** Events yet to be scheduled, but are being discussed: The Return of Belly Dance Class, 'Horse Show' Gathering at the end of the month, and weekly Mental Health group meetings... Also in the works are a Creative Visualization Workshop, and a Metabolism - Movement - Mindfulness Workshop. whew!
