Keith Woolford
This is a video report from TVN (Spanish) regarding inadequate safety mechanisms such as signage, barricades and flagmen being in place along the stretch of the PanAmerican Highway between Santiago and David. As work on the amplification to four lanes progresses, detours are shifted daily and it is often difficult for a driver to discern what lanes to use. http://www.tvn-2.com/videos/bajo-la-lupa/ Edited January 7, 2017 by Keith Woolford
Marcelyn
We agree that the Santiago/David route is hazardous. Lane detours are frequent and only limited advance notice provided on when to move into a different lane. Not a good idea to follow a large truck because any posted signage blocked from view. No conversation between driver and passenger....best for both people to stay very alert and watch barricades. (Glad we were traveling during daylight hours). On the other hand, that section of highway is substantially better than it was in the recent past. Those 70KM just west of Santiago were brutal and dangerous.
