Pilates teaches fluid, natural whole body movement. It is not static- teaching one technique at a time employing different parts of the body. Pilates fluidly  and harmoniously connects one flowing sequence into another incorporating and bringing into awareness- the total body. Thus Pilates integrates and unites the body/mind exploring the principles of alignment and form. The student moves out from the core through the breath, and develops greater concentration, focus, balance and coordination.
Pilates builds muscle. All during life, muscular strength is important, but especially as we age. Muscles feed the bones which support the skeleton in good posture.Weak, saggy muscles don't fill this need. Nothing makes a person appear older than bad posture. And to stand erect, one needs not only strong muscles, but balanced muscles- meaning equally flexible and strong. Thus Pilates' attribute of creating long, lean, strong muscles. Muscles also strengthen metabolism -releasing energy to burn more calories, better digest food and absorb nutrients, and enhances the immune system to enjoy greater health..
So...if you like to work-out and not only have a gentle, relaxing time when you take time to exercise, and to not only do what you've always done in a manner which has you moving mechanically without much attention- Pilates may be for you! And Pilates Using Props, as the classes at the Haven are, creates a stellar dimension of fun and challenge- Enhancing your ability to move with awareness, intelligence and skill.

Ongoing Classes at the Haven Mondays, Wednesdays  and Fridays- 8:30- 9:45 a.m.
All classes use props- stretchy bands, light hand weights, different size balls, and magic circles*, and are included in the class donation requested. Two class packages are available other than the contribution requested for individual classes. Both packages must be taken within a month from the date purchased. *Regular class attendance of at least ONCE weekly is strongly suggested. However- Two, or three times per week is preferred as regular, disciplined attendance yields much better results.. One does not build  a new skill set or strengthen and stretch muscles through irregular, occasional attendance.

* Until one orders and receives his or her own Magic Circle, students may use those provided by the instructor to help decide which style to buy. Have your own yoga mat? Bring it to be guaranteed two mats for when we go down to the floor. It's best to have your own- but not necessary. And please note- There is no additional fee to use the Haven's.
