Bonnie Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 I was returning from Alto Boquete at about 3:45 when I met speeding south, roughly in front of the San Francisco Plaza, six or eight cops on motorcycles and in cars with lights and sirens blazing, followed by an ambulance, followed by another similarly blazing contingent of law enforcement. My first thought was that someone important was in distress, but then, within three minutes, another ambulance accompanied by another group of law enforcement vehicles with lights and sirens appeared. After another minute or so two Sinaproc vehicles came along, as well as several more law enforcement vehicles. This suggests to me that there was a natural disaster of some sort. Has anyone heard anything? Quote
TwoSailors Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 I saw the same. Heard the President of Panama met with the Presidents of Costa Rica and Columbia today in Boquete to discuss migrant problems on the border I believe. Quote
Bonnie Posted October 7, 2016 Author Posted October 7, 2016 Right. But I don't think the President's visit would require ambulances. But what do I know? Quote
JohnF13 Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 I expect it is the same here as in North America. Antime the President is on the move every conceivable scenario is planned for, especially when in the hinterlands. The ambulance is likely stocked with any manner of things that might be needed as a result of an accident or some sort of protest. It is way more than we could expect.... Quote
Keith Woolford Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 (edited) Haven't seen that before for Panamanian Presidential visits. It may be an international protocol because President Solis was here. President Juan Carlos Varela and his counterpart from Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis, began a meeting this morning on security in Boquete, Chiriquí.g At the summit, the two leaders will discuss issues such as immigration, transnational crime and drug trafficking. The meeting occurred behind closed doors in the Panamonte Hotel under strict security. The heads of security of both countries are also present. http://m.prensa.com/in_english/Comienza-Cumbre-Binacional-Panama-Costa_21_4592750684.html Edited October 7, 2016 by Keith Woolford Quote
