Uncle Doug
There has been speculation in recent months about a sign on a parcel of land in David, and whether it means that Walmart is coming to this area. I don't know why it didn't occur to me before now, but I have a good friend who is a manager in the real estate division at Walmart HQ in Arkansas. So I asked him about this over the weekend, and whether it's legitimate. He responded this morning. It is, in fact, a Walmart property. But it is NOT a retail outlet. It's for their sourcing side of the company. In other words, this is a facility for the buying of products which they will retail elsewhere. He did not have more specifics, but I'm guessing that it's for exporting agricultural products for sale in Walmart grocery aisles. I always prefer more choices, so I would be happy to see Walmart or any other retailer expand in this area. But this isn't a sign of that. TwoSailors
We have had friends work for Wallfart...yes WALLFART... and the reports of how terrible they treat their employees are true. They squeeze the heck out of all there suppliers and are overly demanding. All the profits go to the family. A very bad company to have in the neighborhood. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Walmart http://www.dailydot.com/via/walmart-labor-unions-bad-company/ http://www.workplacefairness.org/reports/good-bad-wal-mart/wal-mart.php
Marcelyn
Doug, thanks for this posting--interesting information. Wonder if the local agricultural growers know about this project.

Siempre Soluciones
And their impact to law enforcement is is disastrous: “It’s ridiculous—we are talking about the biggest retailer in the world. I may have half my squad there for hours” https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2016-walmart-crime/
Gordon Bakke
I'm not a big Walmart fan. In fact as a lifelong Teamster, I repudiate many of their business practices, which include moving assets and income overseas to reduce their tax liability to the U.S. On the other hand, its not likely, in my opinion, that many of the business practices of Walmart, that I and others abhor necessarily apply to operations in Central America.
