Bud
Recently the papayas that Marcelyn and I have gotten in town at various tiendas and fruit stands have had no (as in zero) seeds. What is this all about? Are these genetically modified, grafted variants, or what?
JudyS
No need to worry that they are GMO. I googled this and found this interesting info about papayas: "A papaya tree can either be 100% female, 100% male, or anywhere in between. The trees that are purely female produce seedless fruit, and the fruit will have more seeds to the higher degree that the tree is male.. a purely male tree, however, will not produce fruit. Also the seedless or all-female fruits will be noticeably sweeter." (Wouldn't you know it!)
