AMIGOS DE ANIMALES BOQUETE PANAMÁ

DECEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER

NOVEMBER CLINIC

On Sunday November 26th, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 305 animals, 126 dogs and 179 cats with five vets working.

71% of the animals were female and 53% came from Boquete. 222 animals were brought in by owners and 83 came from collectors.

This clinic we did our 27,000th animal!  We spayed or neutered over 3,600 animals this year, far surpassing our previous record of 3,050. Over 650 of those animals came through our mini-clinics. What a year it has been!

CLINIC MUSINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT

Wow!  What can I say?

Our country has been shut down by protests for many weeks now, especially affecting our province of Chiriqui. Our last clinic was postponed because our veterinarians were unable to get to our clinic due to roadblocks.

We weren't quite sure what to expect for our end of November clinic as there have been ongoing fuel and food shortages and continuing roadblocks. We need not have worried!

Our veterinarians found a way to get to the clinic - let me tell you it was not always easy! Our volunteers came in force - some with very low fuel in their cars! Our owners and collectors also came out in droves to support the clinic.

We sterilized 305 animals despite the adversity. This community is absolutely amazing!  I am so grateful that this community pulled together to help all these animals. Wow!  What can I say?

"THEY ASKED - WE ANSWERED" FUNDRAISER FOR CLINICS IN 5 LOCAL SCHOOLS

Last month we kicked off our year-end campaign to raise funds to do sterilization clinics near Boquete-area schools where our volunteers have been helping.

After two clinics in our schools, we know that one very important piece is our mobile van.

With the van we are able to pack up everything that is needed to put on a clinic for up to 200 animals.  Add a few volunteers and a veterinarian or two or three as well as a school to set up, we are good to go.

The one other necessary ingredient is your help.  We have 5 schools on the waiting list for a clinic.

At a cost of $40.00 to sterilize a dog or cat, we need $4,000 per clinic to sterilize 100 animals for free.

Our goal is $20,000 which would allow us to do 5 clinics. We've raised $9,350 so we're almost half way there!

The van, the volunteers, the schools are all ready to go!

Can you help us spay it forward with your donation?

GET TO KNOW OUR AMIGOS DE ANIMALES FAMILY

This month we're featuring an extremely important member of our organization:

Name: Cara-Van

Your position/title with AdA:  Rolling Paws: The Mobile Fixer-Upper

How long have you been working with AdA?  Since 2021 when our incredible donors saw the need for me.

0-20210916_124539.jpg

What is your background? Well, my background is a delightful mix of tire rubber, paw prints, and the occasional squirrel chase. I’ve got more miles on me than a marathon runner, and my paint job? Let’s just say it’s a Jackson Pollock masterpiece of mud and fur.

Can you tell us a little bit more about what you do with AdA? I’m the four-wheeled Cupid of the animal world. I roll up to neighborhoods, play some Barry White (okay, maybe not), and help furry friends find their happily ever after. You could say I’m the Tinder for spaying and neutering.

Why would you encourage others to volunteer here with AdA?  Because life is ruff without responsible pet ownership! Seriously, though, I’ve seen firsthand how our work prevents overpopulation and keeps tails wagging. Plus, who doesn’t want to be part of a team that turns “oops” into “aww-some”?

KIBBLE & BITS:

•  Gift certificates: We have made gift certificates in the denomination of $10 and $20, the price of an individual sterilization for a cat or a dog. Give your neighbors, gardeners and maids certificates for their dogs and cats.  Let’s help each other help each other!
These certificates are an easy way to help. They are available at the Animales table at the BCP Tuesday Market, at Mike's Global Grill or at the clinics.

•  Educational Outreach program: We are visiting local schools to educate students about proper care for their pets, and the importance of spaying and neutering animals. Please email Katrina at katrinakneebone@gmail.com if you can help. Click here to donate, or click here to volunteer.

•  Spay or neuter your animal: we get new requests daily and are doing clinics by appointment only. Contact Rosa, our appointment coordinator, at 6563-8686 to be added to our list.

•  Rescue/adoption?: The mission of Amigos de Animales is strictly spay and neuter, we are not a rescue, adoption or veterinary service.  Please do not ask Rosa about any other service - there are many other rescue groups in and around Boquete.
