AMIGOS DE ANIMALES BOQUETE PANAMÁ

OCTOBER 2021 NEWSLETTER

On Sunday September 26, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 257 animals, 103 dogs and 154 cats with four vets and two trainees working. This was still not our largest clinic, but certainly our most exciting!

#20,000!

At 1PM, we welcomed tag #146, the 20,000th animal to come through our clinic!  The lucky animal was a beautiful female pittie, Kira, owned by Magdelena Rios de Miranda.  She was greeted with much fanfare throughout; she sported a red ribbon, and was admired and petted by all who saw her.

She was a very sweet girl, very strong, but most agreeable and friendly.  Her owner clearly loved and cared for her very much. Congratulations to Kira and to everyone at Amigos de Animales for making this happen.

SPAY/PANAMA

And while we are celebrating our own success, Spay/Panama recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.  They are the organization on which Amigos de Animales is modeled, and they have been a big support to us.  While we are celebrating our 20,000th animal, they have done 258,000 animals in Panama City and the surrounding area. Congratulations to Pat Chan and all of Spay/Panama.

WHAT IF WE DIDN'T SPAY OR NEUTER?

Here is an amazing graphic showing how the animal population could grow if dogs and cats were not spayed or neutered.

♥♥♥  A TRIBUTE TO JAKKI  ♥♥♥

0-Jakki%2C%20Ruby%20png.png

The Animales family mourns the death of Jakki Champ, long time volunteer and daughter of our founder, Ruby McKenzie. Jakki worked in the clinics, managing the surgery volunteers and assisting the vets, and was also very active in the community working at KidsCamp, playing cards with the Euchre group, and acting in productions at the BCP, among other things.

Jakki had a ready smile (unless the animals were not moving to surgery fast enough!) and as one of our volunteers said  “I remember her as such a patient teacher, I learned a lot from her.  I will miss her gentle nature.” We will all miss her.

There will be a Memorial/Celebration of Jakki’s life on Sunday October 17 from 3 to 5 at the Ruby McKenzie Events Center.  Please join us and bring your thoughts and memories of Jakki to share.
