On August 25, the Government of Panama announced plans to reduce movement restrictions and open up additional economic sectors, starting on September 7.  The plan is conditional upon meeting certain criteria regarding the control of the COVID-19 pandemic in Panama.

On September 7, the Government of Panama opened the following economic sectors:  Construction and related activities (engineers, architects, project managers, contractors, moving services), Panama Pacifico, Colon Free Zone and other free trade zones, private ship docks and sports fishing, tailor shops, shoe shops, and carwashes will resume operations.

On September 14, the following changes in movement restrictions were implemented:  Gender-based movement restrictions were lifted and ‘salvoconductos’ became null and void, except for those occupations that require movement during curfew hours. Curfew is now 11pm to 5am, Monday through Saturday, with Sunday as a day of total quarantine in all provinces except for Bocas del Toro, Colon, and Chiriqui, where curfew remains from 7pm to 5am Monday through Friday, with a total quarantine on Saturday and Sunday.

On September 21:  Professional sport activities were permitted to resume without public.

On September 28, the following economic sectors will open: All retail stores (in person), restaurants (in person), professional services not previously reopened, national aviation, general and administrative services. Family activities in beaches, rivers, and natural parks will reopen by province. Horse racing tracks will also reopen without the public.

For additional details about the plan, visit the website of the Ministry of the Presidency.
