Five operations carried out by  Panama environmental authorities and security agencies have resulted in the seizure of 2,386 turtle eggs  most of them from looted nests on the beaches of El Valle de Tonosí, the most important turtle nesting sites in the Pacific.

Reports from the security agencies indicate that, in five operations carried out with MiAmbiente personnel in the region, 2,386 embryos have been seized.

Isla Cañas, the beaches of Guanico Abajo, La Marinera, La Cuchilla, Horcones, and Cambutal, are the most used nesting sites for some four species of sea turtles.

Between the months of August and December, the species with the greatest nesting are the mulatto (Lepidochelys olivacea) and the black-brown turtle ( Chelonia agassizii ).

Other species such as the hawksbill t ( Eretmochelys imbricata ) come to spawn between two to three times a year.
