Police get regular calls as gunshots ring out

Ten people have been assassinated in less than two years and there have been numerous failed homicide attempts in the Altos de Los Lagos Towers, In Colon where a six-year-old girl , was shot and killed last weekend.

She was in the arms of her father, the target of the attack.  He is in hospital recovering from multiple bullet wounds.

The apartment complex was one of the flagship projects of the previous administration built to provide “family integration” but is the site of daily firearms incidents The keys to the first 1,020 apartments were delivered in December 2017.

There are only 165  Community Police Unit (UPC) responsible for monitoring and providing security to 5,000 families totaling over  25,000 people.

A police source told El Siglo that 25 SPI units, 3 lynx bikes, 8 radio units are also added for each 12-hour shift.

According to information obtained by El Siglo, the authorities keep  “red flag" tabs on families who have disputes.
