La Villa Opens at BCP’s Events Center

“It Just Keeps Growing”

Boquete, Panama - In two years, Villa Estrella Coffee has evolved from a sleepy coffee finca in Alto Quiel to La Villa, a new café, coffee lounge and roastery at BCP. Combining the expertise of a local family and the innovation of a seasoned traveler, Abel and Elizabeth Rios have turned their tiny table at BCP’s Tuesday Market into a multi-faceted café and community gathering place, headquartered in BCP’s Hex Room kitchen. From here they serve rich espressos, coffees, teas and frappés from their own single-origin estate coffee and teas; their use their own produce to create juices, smoothies and more. The Villa Estrella (Star Farm) tiny table has become La Villa, a full-blown dream-come-true for Abel and Elizabeth.

Abel proudly carries the tradition of his family forward 120 years after his great-grandfather, Antonio Saraceni, set out from northern Italy and, in the Chiriqui highlands, established one of Panama’s first coffee fincas. Today, his descendants cultivate several varietals of Arabica trees to produce rich, complex roasts from beans grown, picked, processed and roasted on-site. The single-origin dark roast also marries perfectly with the best local organic cacao to produce the ultimate mocha: a blend of chocolate and coffee.

At Villa Estrella and La Villa, coffee is the star, with teas a close second; both part of what Elizabeth calls, “the best of Boquete’s artisan food, all in one place.” La Villa prides itself in developing flavors from the best vendors found at the Tuesday Market and beyond for its gourmet goodies: baguette sandwiches, cookies, scones, brownies and gluten-free products. Elizabeth, holding a bag of fresh basil, says: “We live in the Garden of Eden! Why not use what we have all around us?”

Unlike places like Seattle or Toronto, adding fresh orange blossoms to an organic black tea to produce a house-blended Earl Grey is not only possible, it’s affordable. In season, their farm produces all the organic fruits for their smoothies. What they don’t produce themselves, they source from BCP’s Tuesday Market top-notch vendors. La Villa gourmet sandwiches might include succulent Spanish-style aged prosciutto and fresh chevre, in a just-baked baguette garnished with organic sunflower sprouts and blackened red peppers. “We are using products customers love and keep coming back for, because fresh just tastes better.”

La Villa invites you to discover their small miracle; from one tiny table at BCP’s Tuesday Market to many welcoming indoor and outdoor tables throughout BCP. Venga y disfrute de lo que nos gusta hacer! Come! Enjoy!
