The participants of the World Indigenous Youth Gathering, which takes place in Panama before the World Youth Day (WYD) that will take place next week in the Central American country, received a surprise message sent to them by Pope Francis.

In the video message addressed to the indigenous youth, the Pope encouraged them to celebrate with joy their faith in Jesus Christ, informed the WYD Local Organizing Committee.

Nearly 400 young people from countries such as Panama, Guatemala, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, and Honduras participated since January 17 at the World Indigenous Youth Gathering held in the town of Soloy in the Ngäbe Bugle Comarca, in the western province of Chiriqui.

The first day of the meeting focused on the living memory of the aboriginal peoples, while the second revolved around the struggle of maintaining harmony with Mother Earth and the richness of aboriginal cultures in view of Pope Francis' second encyclical 2015 "Laudato Si,"

The last day of the meeting, on Sunday, will be focused on the importance of the indigenous youth's active participation in the construction of another possible world.

Each day begins with a moment of animation through singing, music, dances, and prayers when the indigenous youth demonstrate their own cultural identity, as well as a festival with ancestral games, pilgrimages, ecological activities, and concludes with cultural events prepared by local groups.

Tomorrow's closing Mass will be presided over by Cardinal Jose Luis Lacunza, according to official information.

The WYD will take place in the Panamanian capital next week, from Tuesday to Sunday, with the presence of Pope Francis and the participation of nearly 100,000 pilgrims, some of them are already in the country.
