In Panama, renting a car can represent an expense ranging from $ 20 to $ 180 per day, according a survey of prices of nine leasing companies consulted by the Authority for Consumer Protection and Competition Defense (Acodeco).

The regulator highlighted on its website companies Easy, Moving, Six, Cheap, Barriga, National, Dollar, Shellane's and Ancon, with operations in Panama City, were surveyed about these price options.

The results show, for example, that a Hyundai Accent (sedan) is available in five of the leasing companies surveyed from $ 36.95 - including tax and insurance - to $ 47.57. That is, with a difference in cost of $ 10.62.

Also, the entity says a Kia Picanto, available in eight out of the nine companies surveyed, has the lowest price, at $ 19.95 -including the 7 percent tax and coverage- and the highest is approximately 90 dollars.

The survey of car rental companies shows the amounts for vehicle rental - both automatic transmission and manual - for work purposes, 4X4, as well as small sedans. The entity also clarifies that insurance coverage is included in some of the prices revealed by the survey.

"The car rental sector enjoys a varied competition, both in the 7 brands and 33 models as presented by this sample by the Price and Verification Information Department of Acodeco, and is especially focused on the tourism, business and family recreation sector," adds the official information.

The general administrator of the Acodeco, Óscar García Cardoze, stressed the importance of the consumer knowing the cost and terms, in writing, of what car rental companies offer, as well as advertising, if applicable, on motor vehicles, according to a press release from the institution.

García Cardoze revealed - reads the press release - that in the first six months of 2018 only 13 complaints have been filed regarding the reliability of advertising, for an amount of $ 13,222, including 6 cases for mischarging.

The automotive business in Panama represents a relevant indicator of how the national economy moves.
