Mario Anthony "Chalate" Torres told EFE today that his team is committed to being main characters in the 2018 Apertura tournament of the Panamanian Soccer League (LPF), despite all the problems the institution is going through. "We hope to be the main characters of the championship, it is a new challenge and we are here to face it with responsibility," said the coach and former captain of the national team. The Santa Gema, who saved their league status on the last date of the2018 Clausura, is one of the small teams of the LPF and has had problems this preseason, to the point of training without having anofficial uniform. Beyond the lack of clothing, is the fact that the president of this soccer club and current mayor of Arraiján (district located in the province of Panama West), Pedro Sánchez Moró, was sentenced to 7 years in prison for the crime of embezzlement. For "Chalate" this is not a reason to give up and he has transmitted that to his players, that they have to go out to the field with the greatest of encouragements and do their part. "We know that he is the club’s image, but that will have to be corrected by the board of directors, here I let the group know that these are unimportant things and that it is not something that will diminish our wanting to work and do things well" he said. The Santa Gema will debut in the Apertura 2018 next Sunday as a visitor against Costa del Este F.C., a team that was recently promoted to the highest league status of Panamanian football. http://www.panamatoday.com/sports/panamanian-soccer-team-santa-gema-wants-be-main-character-lpf-despite-their-problems-7392 Quote
