Keith, is there anything in my post that asks for help? (No, Keith, you just always need to respond to almost everything I post, usually off-point from my post.)

I have no need to contact Rodny, because I don't care WHY he didn't answer his phone.  But because he didn't,  I just will not renew my subscription.

Last night I heard something suspicious happening in the street in front of my house. I have a block wall around my property, and no way was I going to open my gate to look. I called Rodny Direct. I wanted him to call the police to have them come check the situation. I got his answering machine. I left my name, phone number, and subscriber number. Well, 25 minutes later, the people had gone, and Rodny had not returned my call. Then I put my phone on airplane mode and went to bed. This morning there is no indication that he ever called me at all.

This is inexcusable. Rodny's subscribers depend on him to respond in case of emergency or potential emergency. I have paid for a service I did not receive. Well, that's $80 I don't have to spend come renewal time. Too bad I can't get a refund for the remaining months.

June 23, 2019: At this 129th clinic, Dr. Tello sterilized 28 dogs and 11 cats. Of the dogs, 25 were female and 3 were male. Of the cats, 8 were female and 3 were male. This brings our total of dogs and cats sterilized to 5,010. 

We had a new volunteer, Yulianis Camarena. She learned very quickly and we hope she will be a regular volunteer.

The only "authorities" I see in Volcan are the police stopping cars to check for licenses, etc. It would certainly help more if they'd check for speeders and those who don't obey stop signs--who now have more opportunity to speed with the many additional paved roads. I even see colegio drivers speeding and not even slowing down for a stop sign. And parents trust their children with these irresponsible drivers?

I doubt that retailers will be providing paper bags. After all, why would they provide something for free when they can sell the reusable bags? (Reusable for a short time--I saw in Romero yesterday the ones they are selling for 75 cents. They are very flimsy.)

By not providing plastic bags, the retailers will save a bundle that they apparently won't pass on to the consumers.

Other than the possible unintended consequences that Alan Nilson mentioned, I agree that it's a good idea to limit the use of plastic bags. BUT...why isn't there an alternative? Some time back I noticed that El Rey in David was providing biodegradable plastic bags. Will they no longer do that? 

This is why I love the Volcán spay/neuter clinics.  A dog was hit by a vehicle and rushed

 into the clinic.  Dr. Tello examined him and said he had a dislocated front shoulder and broken

hip.  He set the shoulder  and immediately asked for an electric drill. Dottie called Rodriqo

and he brought the drill.  In these pictures you will see Dr. Tello guiding a 5-inch stainless pin

 through the dogs hip while Agueda (15 years old) operates the drill.  In another picture, 

a 14-year-old new volunteer (Esteban Hidaldo) operates the drill while Dr. Tello directs.

Thanks for the pictures and write up, Don. I'm working on my web page now and I planned to 

include about the dog, but you said it very well.

Dr. Tello is indeed a genius! He said the drill is not an "orthopedic drill" but it served the purpose.

I am happy to pay for things like this--and Dr. Tello charged me only $50 for a surgery that took

1-1/2 hours, including, of course, the five minutes it took to  neuter him. 

Francia's sister is taking care of the dog. I gave them extra antibiotics and pain meds to administer.

Dr. Tello will remove the pin at our June 23rd clinic. Francia says she may adopt him--he's a very

nice dog. He is not thin, so I'm guessing he is still another dog that was dumped here--

I regularly walk in that area and I have not seen him before.

I went to see the dog today (April 30th). He is doing well, thanks to our wonderful Dr. Andres Tello. 

The dog also has road rash and dings all over his body, but he will be okay.

Plus Dr. Tello also performed complicated and lengthy surgeries (other than spaying and neutering) on four animals. 

So it was another long day. The extra surgeries and exams took much more time. I didn't get home until 8:00 pm, and then I had an hour of "must do" after-clinic duties that night.

And once again, a feral cat got loose inside the building. John Gould sustained a very deep wound from the cat.  Dr. Tello finally captured the cat with my Ketch pole (well worth the money it cost!) ...but of course before he could get near enough to use it, the cat had already caused a lot of damage. My employee needed to go to clinic the following day and repair the damage.

Our next clinic, April 28th, is already full. We are taking reservations for our May 12th clinic. Very early because of Dr. Tello's schedule and obligations. Call or whatsapp 6640-3171 for appointments. Francia Pinedo has the list and she schedules appointments and confirms them beforehand.

Apparently, Bud. It would be nice if they would just REMOVE the aged or unused accounts instead of sending me dozens of emails EVERY DAY  stating

I've spent hours trying to solve this problem--with no success. So far today I've received 16 of these "notices." And I've been gone most of the morning and not using my computer much at all.

During the recent past I've been getting dozens of "mail can't be delivered" messages regarding muffiemae@yahoo.com. I don't even recall signing up with that name, and I've spent hours trying to find a solution. One page says "that email address is already in use." But I can't find a password for it, and I want to GET RID of that yahoo "muffiemae@yahoo.com" forever. I do have one other yahoo account that I want to keep, mountainviviendo.com.  Others need to be deleted. Yahoo has absolutely the WORST so-called "customer service."

Please help! Thanks!

Today 52 animals were  spayed/neutered by Dr. Andres Tello, our wonderful veterinarian. This brings our total of dogs and cats sterilized to 4,839. http://spaypanama-chiriqui.org/125th.html

It was another long day--Dr. Tello also performed several exams and other time-consuming surgeries other than spaying/neutering.

The reason I ask is because I have Win 7 Pro on my computer and I have the install disk. Sure, I can keep my system updated without it, but I've had to use the install disk upon occasion. (Thanks, Microsoft!) Whether or not any third party has a commercial license to install an operating system  is irrelevant to me. I'd insist on the install disk to be in my hands.

Does this include the Windows 10 Pro install disk?

This is a treatment for demodectic mange, but it helps with fungus as well.

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes, "The best cure for dog mange is to mix a 1% hydrogen peroxide solution with water and add borax. Dissolve thoroughly. Wash the dog with it once a week. Do NOT WASH THE solution left on the dog with ANY WATER. Do not wipe the dog dry. The solution will take effect on mange. The treatment period should not be longer than a month or two. The dog will probably not be resistant as the treatment is painless. This has worked well for me."

Ted replies, "A definitive recipe is add 1-2 tablespoon of borax per 500 cc (2.9 cups = 500 cc) of 1% hydrogen peroxide solution. To make a 3% hydrogen peroxide to 1%, roughly get one part of 3% H2O2 plus two parts of water. Then apply them on the dog. Wash with this solution daily, no rinsing. If it doesn't go away, I have found mites, or mange to have a large "beehive" hidden somewhere. In which case, quarantine the dog in a small area that is 100% sterile."

(I use 2 cups water, 1 cup hydrogen peroxide, 2 tablespoons borax. Wash with this solution daily.)

For severe all-over-the- dog mange, I've used the above in conjunction with sulfur baths and also the spray I mentioned. (I haven't seen sulfur shampoo here, so I buy sulfur, put it in a cup, and add Dawn dish washing liquid and a little water. The sulfur doesn't dissolve, so stir it with a spoon from the bottom of the cup  in order to get some on the dog.  Rub in well and leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse well. DO NOT GET IN THE EYES. Dry with a towel and then use the borax/hydrogen peroxide solution. (I used to finish up with an amitraz solution dip, but now I prefer to use non-toxic remedies.)

PS- Bonnie: I know the Ketoconazol can cause side effects, but sometimes it's necessary to use it. In fact, I don't think there's a single pharmaceutical drug for humans OR animals that isn't toxic in some way.

Marcelyn: I'm glad the vinegar-and-water foot soak works well for you. An Epsom salt solution works,  too. (I buy borax and Epsom salts in 50-lb bags from Ibis in David so I have plenty on hand to use myself and to give away to people who need it.)

Anything we can use that isn't toxic is the best solution!

Bonnie and all...I've found an excellent spray for fungal infections is a mixture of equal portions of raw apple cider vinegar, water, and witch hazel, plus a few drops of tea tree oil. If the infection is mostly in one place, I usually shave the area and use the spray often. If it's all over the body,  sulfur shampoo (and/or a borax-hydrogen peroxide wash) plus ketoconazol tablets.

Let me know if anyone wants the borax-hydrogen peroxide "recipe."

We experienced the 4.5-hour blackout at the spay/neuter clinic last Sunday. Fortunately it was a sunny day and light enough inside the building for Dr. Tello to operate and the volunteers to do their jobs.

This must have been an embarrassing event for Varela and the organizers of the WYD fiasco after spending millions of dollars for it.

We now check for name(s) listed as beneficiary on our bank account on a regular basis plus request written letter from bank manager indicating date & names on our documentation.

Bud, how do you check for the name(s)  listed as beneficiary? Ask at the bank? I named my daughter as beneficiary of my bank account, and after reading this, I want to make sure!
