    Tuesday January 31 – Milagros Sanchez Pinzón is the premiere historian for Chiriqui Province and Boquete in particular. She authored the book Boquete, Rasgos de su Historia in 2001 and Boquete: Valley of the eternal rainbow in 2006 -- research and photos illustrating the rich history of Boquete and its founding families. Luz Graciela Joly Adames, Tenured Professor of Anthology, Department of History, Faculty of Humanities, Autonomous University of Chiriqui, will translate. I have asked Milagros to bring photos of the early history of Boquete.

    Tuesday January 17 – Bob Gregory and the Alto al Crimen team will make a report to the community. Members of the AAC board and Caesar Sherrard, founder and former president of AAC will speak on a number of topics. The meeting will be for all members of the community and especially for new folks who are unfamiliar with the history of AAC or the vital bilingual emergency hotline and other services it provides in Boquete.

    Tuesday January 10 – Alberto Alemán, the former CEO of the Panama Canal Authority, is a graduate of Texas A & M University. Under his leadership, the Panama Canal Authority´s vision has been to transform the Canal into a world leader in services to the maritime industry, to be the cornerstone of the global transportation system, and a model of excellence, integrity, and transparency. He is the recipient of numerous national and international awards for his achievements and contributions to the world maritime industry. Sr. Alberto will speak to us about the history and the future of the canal and its importance to the Panamanian people. Also speaking will be Lee McIntire, former CEO of HSMHill, the project manager with the ACP for the canal expansion project .

Laws you're familiar with in your home country do not apply! Did you know that you must have enough cash on hand to pay a doctor to pronounce someone dead and to have the mortuary pick you up? No credit cards. No IOUs. What will you do if you're hospitalized in an emergency and can't express what medical treatment you want? And who can legally enter your home to feed your pets if you can't? What's your legal marital status? What about wills? There's a lot we ASSUME we know but we don't.

    Tuesday, Dec. 27 – Darrell Eash presents Camels & Chameleons (Learning to Thrive in a New Environment). Learn how to understand and appreciate the differences between Latinos and Gringos, and how to adapt to and succeed in a culture and language different from your own. Darrell’s knowledge in this area comes from being born and raised in Venezuela, living there until he left for college in the U.S. He’s also worked among Latinos for nearly 28 years, and has traveled extensively to all but four Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America. Darrell will address the 10 cultural differences between Latino and Gringo cultures and explain how they can harmoniously work together.

    Tuesday November 15 – Bill Whit presents “More Tai Chi”. In 1985 Bill Whit PhD began 20 years study of Shaolin Temple Praying Mantis style Tai Chi with Grand Master Ho Yen Lee.. Subsequently, he has taken Tai Chi worships and classes with 6 masters and 4 teachers. He taught Tai Chi in Canada for 10 years. He will summarize the history of Tai Chi, its benefits, and demonstrate some Tai Chi forms. He will be starting a free Tai Chi class in Boquete starting in January, 2017.

    Tuesday October 18 – Meet the Wardens. We will introduce Hank Landis and Bonnie Williams, the two new U.S. wardens, Tricia Daugherty, the British Consular Agent, and Mika Kosaki Oldham, Consul and First Secretary of the Canadian embassy. These folks will speak about what their respective embassies can and cannot do for their citizens, how and when to contact them, their citizen registries maintained by the embassies, and other pertinent topics raised by the audience. A must attend program for all U.S., Canadian and British citizens.

    Tuesday October 11 – Yira De Alvarado and Judith Tovar will speak about their work with Nutre Hogar of Chiriqui. They will be introduced to the Boquete community by Phillip McGuigan, Price Peterson, and Pedro Detresno (shows you the importance of this program) Nutre Hogar is a private organization created in 1988 by Monsignor Romulo Emiliani and a group of volunteers, in order to recover and prevent severe malnutrition of children of the most impoverished communities of our country. Nutre Hogar Chiriqui is a non-profit organization that treats 40 severely malnourished children who are transferred from the Malnutrition Ward at Hospital Materno Infantil Jose Domingo De Obaldia. They attend to the children’s needs with medicine, dietary supplements, education, and MUCH LOVE. Other subjects she will cover will include support groups, pets, facing the brevity of life, finding your passions and defining your new normal.

Good thing she didn’t sell her house in Boquete because, after a year, she moved back to Boquete and will never leave again. Find out why. Her presentation will include a slide show and will also update her experience with current information about Cuenca.

    Tuesday September 13 – This is the guy who might save your life !! Angel Rodriguez will speak on the science of volcanology and the early alert system he monitors on Volcan Baru. Angel was born in Panama but graduated from the University of Washington where he married his wife Carla Black. Angel has been a tinkerer and inventor all his life. In his previous life he made bicycles and computers. Spending winters in Volcan, Panama, Angel started building telescopes. He then turned his attention to making seismometers. He constructed the mechanical parts, designed and built the electronics and wrote the software to create his first seismographs. Eventually he built his own private seismic network. Presently he has a nice electronics lab, several 3D printers, a laser cutter, CNC mills, lathes and all the tools a maker might want. He has a passion for making seismographs, including affordable personal seismographs for your home. His Kickstarter campaign has 597 backers and has raised $99,258.00.     Tuesday September 6 – Jose Arias will talk about his new crematorium in David which is now open for business. Prices for a cremation range from $800 to $1300 depending on the type of urn. Jose owns Memorial Group which has been in the funeral home and cemetery business for more than 20 years with 3 private cemeteries and 2 funeral homes in Panama.

  21. One of the very best ways for newcomers to meet others and learn the ins and outs of living here is to attend the weekly market at BCP. The Tuesday Talk is an integral part of the market and runs from 10:30 to about 12 in our 96 seat theater. At the talk you will get to know interesting local residents and also those who are willing to come from other places to address the Boquete community. For example, today (August 2) talk will be given by a most interesting couple living here in Boquete: Tuesday, August 2 – David & Leianne Scee will speak about their lives as “Retired Rovers”. They have wandered the globe by land and sea and always make it a point to give back to whatever community they land in. When they heard about the untimely death of the physical therapist at the Handicap Foundation, they rushed back to Boquete. They are currently committed to staying as physical therapists for a year. Their talk will be accompanied by photos of the places they’ve stayed in and the projects they developed. Truly an amazing couple; come and meet them.

    Tuesday July 26 – Howard & Deborah Green will talk about their recent trip to Cuba. They wanted to visit Cuba before the big changes that will come with direct flights from the US scheduled to begin later this year.Their itineary was Havana, Vinales, Trinidad, and Playa Maria Aguilar. They had an interest in exploring large scale organic gardening and the excellent culinary options tourists encounter. They will present how travelers can safely navigate Cuba without a guide, how to book lodging from home, how to travel between cities, and how to access the internet in Cuba, and how to use the Cuban currency. The talk will be accompanied by slides and a Q & A period.
