  1. Major recent problems at Paso Canoas recently: http://panamaprattle.blogspot.com/2015/11/chaos-for-cubans-in-canoas.html Also contrary to Chica's posting you do not need a ticket to your country of origin, you need ticket of onward passage. For some reason this is still uncorrected on her The Real Boquete Facebook page.
  2. I did it when I renewed my plates in David. I had everything needed except proof of being a Boquete resident. I remembered that my insurance policy showed a Boquete address and that worked (with some hesitation). Better to take a utility bill. Next year I just went to the Boquete Tesoraria and they had my plates there. Oh, photocopy your title, insurance doc, and revisado just in case. They need a copy of one of these, can't remember which one.
  3. For those who are still registered in David (like I was), you can transfer your registration to Boquete if you wish. A small fee, 15 balboas I think and proof of ownership and Boquete residency. Boquete will now get the registration fees, not David. Much less hassle when selling your vehicle here in Boquete to local residents. No need to ever go to David for your annual revised and placas.
  4. There are at times huge numbers of Cubans stuck at this crossing. From the Panampost "The Panama National Immigration Service (SNM) claims that between 2010 and 2015, the number of Cubans who have entered the country illegally has increased by 294 percent. This year alone, the Panamanian government says they have helped 8,745 Cubans who have arrived in the country through the forest region of El Darién." They arrived illegally and are given a period of time to continue onward. Senafront does not have the money or holding facilities to process them with deportations.
  5. The plot thickens. Early on I realized Ambreen was a Pakistani name. I am now beginning to understand their lack of transparency. If you are right, this is subterfuge of the most scurrilous kind. With Lee and Don Ray there was never any mystery about who they were and their pasts.
  6. I think you are way off topic here. This is about parking in Boquete, nothing else. You live in Nuevo California/Volcan.
  7. Chica, difficult for me to understand why somebody that lives 50 miles and 1.5 hrs. away from Boquete by road, cares. For the record I don't openly encourage or welcome newcomers, infrastructure is getting strained.
  8. I stumbled across "The Twisted Roots of Latin America" by Cuban journalist Carlos Montaner, free PDF download on the internet. Amazon probably has it too. This was for me essential in seeing the culture here through a Latino lense and not a North American lense. The culture is much more different than I ever realized, even after spending a few years here.
  9. Union Fenosa is also responsible for the street lights in Boquete. Last year it took 10 visits to the UF office and 10 months to fix the burnt out one on my block. Accountability, hah! It is burnt out again. Lets see how long it takes this time.
  10. RK, regarding your ATM loss, if the card is branded Visa, Mastercard, etc. you may be able to use them for loss recovery. Also, debit reversals are not handled with foreign to Panama banks, and for me several times was able to resolve with my home bank. If your home bank is in Panama, then I don't know how that is handled. Ironically, several years ago, a guy in PC filed a denuncia against the bank for theft on an ATM shortage.
