  1. We're sorry to say that the "Being Prepared" presentation by Hospice is full to over flowing. We have to close out registrations. We will schedule more presentations and put it on News Boquete. Meanwhile, don't forget that next Tuesday, Nov. 10, 10:30 at the BCP Theater, there will also be a presentation of "Being Prepared". That may also fit your schedule.
  2. Our First Anniversary! CHOX Artisan Chocolate, widely considered to be Boquete’s best chocolateria, is celebrating the one year opening of our shop in downtown Boquete. 3. On Sunday October 25, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 181 animals: 88 dogs and 93 cats. While this was not as big a clinic as planned, it was plenty big and went very well. This year at several clinics, the number of cats brought in equaled or surpassed the number of dogs; the cat trappers have been hard at work. Our year total is 1907 animals: 1062 dogs and 842 cats, the percentage for cats having gone up considerably from prior years. Our total for 10 years is now 9577 animals; we should hit 10,000 by mid-next year! Hard to believe that we have completed a full year in our new facility. Every time that we walk into our new home, we are all filled with such gratitude and pride that we really have this place and it is ours. We are so thankful for our donors who believed in us and helped us to fulfill this dream. We are grateful to our volunteers and vets and food providers and collectors and friends in Boquete and the surrounding area. We are humbled and amazed and truly thankful for what can be accomplished when a group of people work as a team for a common goal. We thank each and every one of you who have worked with us this year; it is such an honor to know such fine and caring people who give so generously of themselves to make the lives of the animals in Boquete so much healthier and safer. We will start up again on January 31, 2016. We look forward to seeing you all then. Together we are making a difference.

  9. Once again, the parade season is upon us in Boquete. Today was a fabulous day and a good time was had by all. As usual, I have posted some pics from the parade here for your enjoyment. And as I always say, the real stars of these parades are the young women. This is their moment to shine and do they ever! I am always knocked out by the attention to detail and variety in their uniforms and their obvious pride in their presence and beauty. They are truly the future of Panama. For those of you new to Panama, the parades and the Pollera tradition, are a unique cultural heritage of Panama. There are no commercial sponsors or TV news coverage. The people participating in the parades do so for their own gratification and the appreciation of the people lining the route. Their faces tell the story. Enjoy, Mark

  18. This is a summary of the Info video the mayor put out on Chiriqui Radio for October: (I like the last line!) 1) Resources were granted to create a guard post to protect the one entrance to Boquete at Caldera to guarantee more stability and security for those who live and visit here, and to guarantee you have a good time. 2) Agricultural development: Visits from the EDA and IMA, Minister of Agriculture and others. Boquete is a tourist destination and an agricultural producer. Agro-tourism is important for local and national development here. We are monitoring and trying to keep the Caldera River clean, and the valley safe from floods. 3) We have been getting together and talking with organized groups like at the BCP birthday celebration, we let it be known our intentions about security, sustainability, environmental development- green and completely ecological. 4) Gestations of projects of Chinese investments in "macro projects" in Boquete. There is interest from the Chinese to invest in a tram to the top of the volcano so tourists can see both seas, of a conference center, new city hall, a modern bus terminal, parks, green spaces, walkways and foot bridges to the fairgrounds and old town. They are working in these ways with the president, and the Minister of Tourism, O'Higgins, and with the Chinese consulate. They are looking at upwards of 2000 tourist visits daily to Boquete, increasing the economy of restaurants, hotels, artes, and agriculture of the area. These projects are in gestation. 5) Educational institutions: We are looking at loan programs, or grants to other countries' multilingual education programs for graduates to increase understanding from developed countries so students can have access that we don't have here yet, enhancing all our future with the education they acquire. To all our brothers and sisters (hermanos), and the foreigners that newly reside here, you are all "Boqueteños", we welcome you. And now that you are here, you have the security and pleasure to walk and be in our beautiful district of Boquete. Kelly Ware
