That's a long planned outage without notice. Both my garage door and my gate operate by electricity. With some difficulty, it's possible to bypass both, but they're hard to reset once power is restored. As it happens, it was no big deal because I had no plans outside the house today, but I can't help noting that they have my email address because they send my bill by email every month. It seems to me it would have been easy to notify customers via email so they could plan ahead.

We get our bill by email as well. Agree!

"It seems to me it would have been easy to notify customers via email so they could plan ahead."

Someone dropped the ball or they just don't care! Hopefully, they got a lot of calls and complaints.

  2. Well, Bonnie here is our experience:

We are in Brisas Boquetenas, at around 2600 feet. Depending on traffic.:(

Our pest report after 2 years:

    Snakes, 4 total,  1 coral, 1 green, 1 black/blue,  one ??? ( was moving too fast )

Scorpians, 2 in the house virtually on their last leg. ( no pun intended) Easy kill

Spiders, too many to count. Hello Christian Pitti

Ants, Dry season, hundreds,  CHD Services Pest Control. Gotta love Cristian Pitti

Mosquitoes, a lot less than the first year...go figure!

Cane Toads, 6 or 7 lost count. Nasty critters.  Pet killer for sure!

Wasps and bees, Were the hell are they? Need that pollination thing going on!

Beetle bugs, or whatever the hell you call them. Seasonal. come inside to die. Life everlast I guess.

Termites, a few in our new kitchen cabinets....hello Cristian Pitti! Whew..saved the day and cabinets. This guy knows his stuff!

Sales/ religious solicitation, too many to mention.

No Ticks, no Fleas, no Errors. Dogs are on Seresto tick and flea collars.

If I missed any bug, in particular, please do not take offense.

So what is bugging your area?

Having lived in a few different places here, and in CR, my experience has been that there are definitely less insects at higher elevations.

It seems to be too cold for them to flourish.

The insects don't like wearing the coats to keep them warm. Hard to find the right size I guess. :D

Hi all, please note the gofundme account noted above is for Javier and Magaly who run their dog camp for boarding and also do rescues.  They are currently boarding several ARF rescues.  ARF is a separate organization.  We are 100% non-profit.  To donate please go to:  http://www.arf-boquete.com/donate.html

A very good friend and responsible pet owner had their dog boarded there, Javier and Magaly.

Upon picking the dog up it was loaded with fleas and ticks. Despite being on a tick and flea preventative. If they need flea and tick preventions we would be happy to donate as long as it is part of an ongoing program.

Sometime back I was asked by someone to write an article for International Living. I explained to this nice woman that sure, I'd write one, but without the rose-colored glasses and that I'd write about the pros vs the cons. She explained to me that she has a disabled husband and that their income comes from her writing..i.e., International Living for example. She did not contact me again. She seemed like a very nice person in a tight position...but there is an example of where International Living publishes their lies.

A few years ago we were interviewed by the International Livings PC based manager. Took pictures and asked us to send in our thoughts on Panama. We did with the pros and cons as well. Never got published!

Have never read anything published regarding the cons in any of their articles.

Two Sailors and Pat, I don't think you have any idea how much work goes into News Boquete. There is no form to post on BN for good reason. It adds an extra step to the already burdensome process and it discourages postings due to increased bureaucracy. I'm sure your suggestions are well meant, but the Newslady has been handling this for years and knows what she's doing, what is feasible and what isn't. It's a real labor of love, and it pains me to hear people criticizing it or suggesting that they know how to do it better.

Bonnie, Please re-read my post. I don't think you read it very well.  How you would ever come to the conclusion that I was criticising or suggesting that I know better how to do it then the Newslady is totally uncalled for.

To say that I and Pat have no idea of how much work goes into News Boquete is out of line. And if you read what the News Lady posted she said:  She is working on a way to universally enforce this desire'

The newslady agrees that all persons submitting an email for distribution should identify themselves. She is working on a way to universally enforce this desire. Short of proof-reading, editing, and correcting every email that comes in, there doesn't seem to be a way to make people think about how to submit an informative, well written notice. Too many people dash off a couple of sentences on their smart phone and send it in to be put into almost 2000 email inboxes. Shows a disrespect for the service. >:(

I was simply making a suggestion.

Maybe they can get on with business now. I've used UBER many times in Panama City. Great company for Panama. Never waited over 5 minutes for an Uber Taxi. Watched the taxi on the interactive map enroute to where ever I was waiting. Newer cars, clean cars, and pleasant drivers. And, never paid over $5 anywhere in the city. I didn't have to use it from Tocumen to Albrook. I think those days are over since Copa flies to David now(except the ones that refuse to fly Copa to David). I really like the auto billing to my credit card and now carry less cash. Maybe one day they'll think of Chiriqui----Especially David.

Totally agree. The auto billing is great. I also like that they send you via your phone, the drivers name, picture, what kind of car, the eta, and his cell number. We have used UBER throughout SA and CA and have always had great experiences.

    Agree.

Can you set it up so they have to automatically fill out a short form with required information before you post it? I doubt there is anything that urgent that 24 hours can wait till you receive all the information before it is posted? I think it would certainly make life easier for you.

"Too many people dash off a couple of sentences on their smart phone and send it in to be put into almost 2000 email inboxes."

Maybe time the "too many people" are either required to provide full information or let them go post their half-empty information on some other sites.
