Boqueteno producer Rafael Ortega Caballero, who had been missing since Sunday, was found dead in the Palmira district of Boquete, Chiriqui Province.

The finding was carried out at 6:00 Wednesday morning by relatives and friends, who had started the search for the producer and his livestock.

The body was located between a few grasslands in the Palmira Abajo to Cañas Verde in Boquete, about 200 meters off the road. The horse saddle and the cap of the victim were found nearby.

Family members reported that Ortega went out on Sunday to inject a steer and did not return home.

Jaime Caballero, uncle of the deceased, said Rafael was riding. Yesterday, three boys who were looking for him found him in the morning.

'He was lying face up with his mouth full of blood, as if he had been beaten. Near the place had blood stains. We knew that the day he disappeared was talking with another person,' said Caballero.

Caballero hopes that the authorities will investigate and punish those responsible for this fact.

The police reported that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, thus it is presumed that the producer died on the evening of Sunday or Monday morning. In addition, it was observed that the body had wounds suffered by a blunt object.

Recently the body of Wilberto 'Wilo' Landau, another producer of Boquete, was found in a gorge in the area of Zumbona in the finca El Porvenir, after having gone out to look after some cows.

That report is from a tabloid newspaper which has a tendency to sensationalize.  I will try and get more reliable information from neighbours over there.

This one is from a different news source. Telemetro.  What a difference. No speculation or sensationalism.

There was a tragic discovery on Wednesday morning in the Cañas Verde, Palmira Abajo area near Boquete.

The corpse of a man identified as Rafael Ortega was found in the middle of a rural road in this area and a few meters away his horse was tied to a tree.

He was a producer of the village, reported as missing since Sunday. Staff of the Public Prosecutor removed the corpse, and commenced an investigation to find out what caused his death.

Very sad no matter how he passed.
