Digital Art with Tatiana Arefina-Armitage Tatiana's work is on DIsplay at Colibri Restaurant Tatiana I. Arefina-Armitage was born in Soviet Harbor in the Russian Far East, opposite Sakhalin Island. She received a bachelors and masters degree in biology at the Far Eastern University in Vladivostok, Russia. She worked as a research biologist at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Vladivostok until 2006, attaining the rank of Senior Research Scientist. She is the author of over 60 scientific publications, primarily on two groups of aquatic insects: caddisflies and net-winged flies. She has also written chapters for several books. She met her husband, Dr. Brian Armitage, in Potsdam, Germany in 2000 and they were married in 2006, with her gaining U.S. citizenship soon thereafter. They have published numerous scientific papers together, particularly on the caddisfly fauna of Vietnam, Southeast Asia, and Panama. They moved to Panama in late 2012 and are now permanent residents. Both are Research Associates with the Gorgas Institute. Recently, Tatiana has turned her interests toward art. She initially experimented with computer art and graphics. Then, she changed to painting, and has created a series of watercolors on Panama’s vertebrate and invertebrate fauna, especially birds, butterflies, and moths.
