NewsLady Posted November 16, 2015 Share Posted November 16, 2015 ALTO al CRIMEN RISES FROM THE ASHES Like the phoenix of ancient myths, Alto al Crimen is in the process of rising from the “ashes” of its recent travails. After about four months of reorganization and agonizing delays, mostly for legal paperwork and administrative processing in government agencies and by our bank (but also because of government holidays), this week we are finally coming up from the ashes of the past. We want to thank all the donors who have aided Alto al Crimen during this difficult time, and particularly those who made donations in cash while we were unable to access our funds in the bank. And we appreciate the patience of Rodny Moreno because there have been times when the contractual payments to him were delayed. We also express appreciation for the encouragement and support received from so many of you in the Boquete community. Through all of this the Alto al Crimen Hotline has functioned without interruption and has been available to our 500-plus registrants and also to any short-stay residents, tourists and our Panamanian hosts. Our home security inspections have continued, thanks to the work of Richard Moore. We have interacted with government officials and community activists regarding crime problems. We have a number of volunteers to help with our functions and projects and will be happy to welcome others who want to pitch in to help make Boquete a better and safer community. Alto al Crimen is first and foremost a non-profit community service organization, and now that our funds are becoming accessible, we can proceed with some projects that were put on hold. We hope that the many people who have supported Alto al Crimen in the past and many more as well will “vote with your donations” and help us to continue being a service for all the people. Donations may be made by cash or check (payable to Fundacion Alto al Crimen) delivered to David van Harn on the north patio at the Tuesday Market. In the coming weeks we will be rolling out new projects and activities and will keep you informed of them.
