Electric Transformers: Imports up 6%

In the first half of the year, Central American countries invested $164 million in purchasing electric transformers for $164 million, equivalent to a 6% increase over the same period in 2017.

Figures from the information system on the Transformers and Electrical Converters and Reactance Coils Market in Central America complied by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData:

Imports by country
In the first six months of 2018, the largest importer was Panama, with $39 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $34 million, Guatemala, with $31 million, El Salvador, with $24 million, Honduras, with $22 million and Nicaragua, with $14 million.

Variation in regional imports
Between January and June 2017 and the same period in 2018, the value of imported electrical transformers and converters and reactance coils in Central America increased 6% from $155 million to $164 million.

Origin of imports
During the first half of the year, 31% of the value imported from Central America was from the U.S., 15% from China, 15% from Mexico, 6% from Spain and 5% from Colombia.

China is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most in the first half of the last seven years, since in 2012 represented 11% of total imports in the region and this last year increased to 15%.
