Salvadores de Animales
Since May, when we meet Kirsten from ARF, we can gladly say that we have made great strides with the "Jaramillo Cat Lady" case. This lady is my grandaunt and me and my family are so grateful for all the help received. In June Kirsten and I agreed to start spaying the kittens and finding them good homes. Carlos, my boyfriend and I decided to keep the kittens and foster them. Previously this would not work for us because we have no way to keep the kittens controlled in the laundry room. We brought 5 kittens in one of the big carriers that Kirsten borrowed to us but it was too small for them. We decided to build a cage where we they would be comfortable. My grandma helped us to look for the materials, and my granduncle, who is very good at construction, helped us to assemble it. Another aunt paid for transport of the cage to our house. This experience brought us closer as a family. Every month ARF has been donating cat food for my grandaunt's cats. Considering that one bag of 25 lbs. lasts 6 days, this is a huge help for her. In the same way ARF helped us to spay all the 12 female cats and 4 kittens. We have found homes for 7 kittens. More will be fixed at the July clinic. We still have 9 kittens waiting plus 16 males. The labor with kittens include: keeping them healthy (feeding, bathing, cleansing their space everyday), giving them worm medicine, taking them to the vet when necessary, socializing and cuddling them. Currently we are using sawdust but the vet don't recommend this plus it attracts a lot of flies. When we contacted ARF my grandaunt had 40 cats. Without the kittens she will have 28. Yesterday she (a very reserved person) told me that she can finally breath knowing that she won't have more kittens coming and sent thanks and greetings to Kirsten. We are deeply thankful for ARF and for the support they give to us. We especially thank Kirsten and Ray; such a loving and compassionate individuals. Pictures are of Gabriella's grandaunt, Gabriella and her boyfriend Carlos and some of the cats. Salvadores de Animales
Hi all. This is another installment in the Cat Lady of Jaramillo story. The shelter that was built doesn't look like much but it was constructed of donated recycled materials and it serves its purpose. "Since the last update we have achieved great things. 12 more cats were spayed between July and August giving a total of 28 cats spayed to date. Eight (8) cats were adopted, four of them at ARF events. In August Ray built a cozy cat shelter outside my aunt`s house, giving them a place to live other than my aunt’s small kitchen. This makes my aunt very pleased. Dario was the first to inspect and approve of the new shelter. Then the other cats followed and are comfortably sleeping in their new space. During the day they rest on top of the shelter. Carlos and I are currently fostering the last 2 kittens. ARF continues donating cat food for my aunt’s cats and helping us with vet visits, medicine, kitten food and litter. We are getting close to the finish line. We would like to say a special thanks to ARF for all the help we have received from them. Honorable mention is given to Dra. Chely who has been very supportive to our cause and of course a huge thanks to Kirsten and Ray for their commitment to our cats and good vibes."
