Drivers who commit a traffic violation on the main streets of Panama City will begin to receive from Saturday, July 1, a notification via email detailing the offense committed.

It will only be a notification and "no fine, sanction or the economic charge will be generated", clarified the Transit and Land Transportation Authority (ATTT).

The ATTT explained that it is the pilot project "Foto Fine", which consists of turning on some 65 cameras that will take photos of the license plates of offenders.

They are in some 24 platforms located in different sectors of the capital, such as the Ricardo J. Alfaro highway, the Transístmica highway, Via España, and the north and south corridors.

Drivers who stop their vehicles over security lines, jump traffic lights or speed will be notified. Before sending notifications, the videos will be reviewed by ATTT inspectors.

"It is a plan to raise awareness among drivers," the entity detailed.

In the first stage of Photo Fine, notifications will be sent to the drivers' emails. In the message will be the control number and an internet link for the person to review the offense committed. Once you enter the site you can see the photo of the vehicle so that "visually you can understand the nature of the infraction."

Currently, Transit fines $100 for failing to attend a red light; $50 for speeding, and $20 for ignoring a pedestrian safety line.
