The increase in plant mass fires during March has stretched the Panama Fire Department (CBP)  to the full as some of the 1,312 emergencies attended, people were found whose lives were at risk in areas close to slums and shopping malls.

Statistical data from the entity shows that from January to date, the institution has responded to 2,890 calls for plant mass fires, of which 1,312 have been registered in the month of March, an increase of 316 cases compared to March 2022 and represents an average of 42 outings per day.

This week the Ministry of the Environment, together with the firefighters, attended a fire in the La Yeguada reserve, province of Veraguas, which impacted around 100 hectares before it was brought under control on Thursday.
