It was located on the island of Coiba, near Chiriquí and Veraguas, with a depth of 10 kilometers. A second 4.2 earthquake was reported in the same area at 5:28 pm reported the Institute of Geosciences. The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) reported that the earthquake has been "perceived in Chiriquí, Bocas del Toro, Veraguas, Azuero, Panamá Oeste and Panamá. At the moment, no damages, affectations, or injuries have been reported. Two earthquakes occurred on Tuesday afternoon, as reported by the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama. The first tremor was 6.9 magnitude, indicated a revised report from the Institute of Geosciences. Carlos Rumbo, director of Sinaproc, told AM News that no people were injured, but partial damage to plumbing systems, falling oxygen tanks, and slight cracks was reported at the Rafael Hernández Hospital in Chiriquí. He reiterated that strong tremors were felt in the capital and many public and private entities put their evacuation plan in place, which he classified as important. The Geosciences report indicated the tremor occurred at 12:22 pm, was located 36 kilometers from Santiago de Veraguas and at a depth of 13 kilometers. Prior to the movement, Geosciences from the University of Panama also reported another previous movement in the same area, at 12:13 pm and with a magnitude of 4.0, according to the preliminary report. The preliminary report also indicates that the earthquake was located 46 kilometers from Tortí (Chepo), with a depth of 46 kilometers. The movement was felt in various parts of the capital. On Monday, May 1, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake was also reported by the Institute of Geosciences. The tremor occurred at 12:22 pm, and was located 36 kilometers from Santiago de Veraguas at a depth of 13 kilometers. Authorities have not reported material damage or casualties so far. The seismic event occurred at 11:59 pm on Monday, August 28, located 61 kilometers from El Porvenir (Guna Yala) and at a depth of 10 kilometers. The Institute of Geosciences of the state University of Panama reported that the earthquake was recorded at 3:11 pm with a depth of 5 km and about 10 km west of the “Progreso” area, located in the Panamanian province Chiriquí, near the border with Costa Rica. So far, Panama's emergency services have not reported material damage or victims, while social media users have expressed that the earthquake was strongly felt in the towns bordering Costa Rica. On the Costa Rican side, there are reports of falling objects in some supermarkets in that area. Panama and Costa Rica are located in the Pacific Belt or Ring of Fire, which concentrates some of the most important subduction zones (collapse of tectonic plates) in the world and is the scene of strong seismic activity.
