6.8 magnitude earthquake registered in Panama

A 6.8 magnitude earthquake occurred at 5.18  on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 4, as reported by the                                   Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama.

It was located on the island of Coiba, near Chiriquí and Veraguas, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

A second 4.2 earthquake was reported in the same area at 5:28 pm reported the Institute of Geosciences.

The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) reported that the earthquake has been "perceived in Chiriquí, Bocas del Toro, Veraguas, Azuero, Panamá Oeste and Panamá. At the moment, no damages, affectations, or injuries have been reported. We carry out monitoring in the provinces."

Sinaproc monitoring cracks after 6.9 quake

Personnel from the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) will continue Wednesday, April 5, monitoring and inspection in some houses that supposedly resulted in cracks after the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that was felt in the country on Tuesday.

Two earthquakes occurred on Tuesday afternoon, as reported by the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama.

The first tremor was 6.9 magnitude, indicated a revised report from the Institute of Geosciences.

Carlos Rumbo, director of Sinaproc, told AM News that no people were injured, but partial damage to plumbing systems, falling oxygen tanks, and slight cracks was reported at the Rafael Hernández Hospital in Chiriquí.

He reiterated that strong tremors were felt in the capital and many public and private entities put their evacuation plan in place, which he classified as important.

Slight cracks were reported in houses in El Marañón (Panama), Santa Rita, and the district of Antón (Coclé).

4.2 earthquake in  Veraguas

An earthquake of 4.2 degrees was reported in by the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama, near noon on, Monday, May 1.

The Geosciences report indicated the tremor occurred at 12:22 pm, was located 36 kilometers from Santiago de Veraguas and at a depth of 13 kilometers.

Prior to the movement, Geosciences from the University of Panama also reported another previous movement in the same area, at 12:13 pm and with a magnitude of 4.0, according to the preliminary report.

Last Friday, April 28, the Institute confirmed the recording of an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 degrees 6 kilometers from the district of Arraiján, province of Panama West.

4.9 quake felt in Panama capital

The Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama reported an earthquake of 4.9 degrees of magnitude at 9:12 pm, on Tuesday, May 2.

The preliminary report also indicates that the earthquake was located 46 kilometers from Tortí (Chepo), with a depth of 46 kilometers. The movement was felt in various parts of the capital.

On Monday, May 1, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake was also reported by the Institute of Geosciences. The tremor occurred at 12:22 pm, and was located 36 kilometers from Santiago de Veraguas at a depth of 13 kilometers.

On Friday, April 28, the Institute confirmed the recording of an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 degrees 6 kilometers from the district of Arraiján, province of Panama West.

Panama records 6.2 earthquake

The Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama reported a 6.2 magnitude earthquake located in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of the Guna Yala region. Authorities have not reported material damage or casualties so far.

The seismic event occurred at 11:59 pm on Monday, August 28, located 61 kilometers from El Porvenir (Guna Yala) and at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) reported that the Emergency Operations Center,  remains in monitoring and surveillance after the recent telluric movement perceived in the Guna Yala region, in addition to the provinces of Panama and Panama West.
