Once again, Panama was poorly qualified in the fight against corruption, according to the Corruption Perception Index Report for 2022 presented by Transparency International.

The index concludes that Panama is in the position of 101 out of 180 countries with a rating of 36/100, where 0 would be the most corrupt position and 100 would be the most transparent, while the average for the region is 43.

Olga de Obaldía, from the Transparency International Chapter of Panama, said that this is bad news, assuring that since 2012, when the country was included in the measurement of the Corruption Perception Index, their numbers show that in three different administrations, no forceful changes have been made that improve the capacity to fight corruption.

Similarly, it has not been possible to improve the transparency and integrity structures that could stop or prevent corruption. Among what was exposed in the presentation of the , is that there is no framework or the laws are not applied, which creates a vacuum in practice, becoming impunity.

The entry into force of the Conflict of Interest Law on February 18 is highlighted, but without knowing how it will be put into practice.

Panama was also compared with countries that are "very bad" at the international level and that with this corruption perception index is a breeding ground for situations such as those registered in Brazil, Peru, or Ecuador to occur .
