Low water levels in hydro reservoirs

Posted 25/01/2022

The Fortuna and Bayano hydroelectric plants, the only ones that have reservoirs, register low water levels due to the scant rainfall that has occurred in the river basins that supply the reservoirs.

This has forced the use of the rest of the generators, including the thermal ones, the natural gas plant, the wind and the solar ones.

The National Energy Secretariat (SNE) confirmed that there were lower levels than the average in Fortuna and Bayano, "but now w have the solar panels that are contributing to us this summer like never before in the peak hours [of more consumption]."

Due to this situation, the SNE reported that "this summer and that of 2023 we know that we must be monitoring.".
