There seems to be a serious campaign to reduce speeding except in Chiriqui where stats are terrible.

It is totally out of control. Even on our little street here in Brisas Boquetenas! Speed bumps baby, speed bumps!

Speed cameras at designated spots on the Boquete highway or bring back the darn motorcycle radar cops, at least!

He said that, in addition, due to the lack of training programs, the system does not have preventive health plans; instead, bad attention predominates, there is a large number of non-friendly staff that causes dissatisfaction in users, and the long lines continue as they wait to obtain medicines that are not available, among others.

This quote from the Panama government that is in the lead post of this thread.

An important element of planning a move is to plan to take care of one's own health needs rather than expect Panama to foot the bill-- or, as I have observed numerous times in my 12 years here, to expect other expats to chip in for unexpected, expensive health crises.

Totally agree! If anyone is planning a move to Panama or any other country their number one concern should be health coverage.

A friend who spent time in a public hospital described the experience as a cross between "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Midnight Express.") But, then, when it comes to matters of health, I am very risk averse. Others are braver (or more foolhardy).

We have a 3rd generation Panamanian friend here in Boquete who had her father in the public hospital. After a few days, they took him out and brought him to Mae Lewis. They described deplorable conditions at the public hospital.

No big surprise with this information. People who travel out of Panama already know how expensive it has become to live here IMO.

Agree. If you spend a night in Panama City and have lunch and dinner it is a lot more expensive then it used to be. Look at all the high-end restaurants in PC and especially Casco Viejo.

Another example is the number of restaurants here in Boquete with prices to match!!

  5. Gabby the owner makes the whole experience wonderful. Very caring and gracious hostess. Her food is excellent. We requested a few dishes in advance and they were excellent. She makes great ceviche if you let her know ahead of time. The Casa Cocktail is yum. Great pool and awesome beach. It is a very tropical location that is a bit remote and rustic and funky but clean. There is no hot water but not a big deal. Peace and quiet with the sounds of the birds. and waves crashing on the shore. Great chill place and dog-friendly.

    Everyone's entitled to my opinion.

A fellow sitting in a chair does not strike me as being a clear and present danger, moreover it would appear to me like someone who may be lost or confused. He wasn't looking in windows, trying to enter, or threatening anyone.

Also, it seems that some of you folks haven't come very far culturally in this country if you don't realize that almost every conversation starts with a greeting, regardless of the situation.

Personally, I would be more concerned about the robbery of a patron at a pizza place on the main street this weekend.
