What is happening at Fénix Cafe in August?



Monday: 12 noon - 4 pm (Monday Movie 1 pm)

Tuesday: Cafe open: 8 am - 1 pm  (BCP Market: 9 am - 12 noon)

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday: Cafe open: 10 am - 6 pm

Closed on Sundays! ---  Open later for special events!




Full Moon Drum Jam

Monday, August 7th, 6:00 - 8:00 pm

All are welcome to join the circle - experienced or first timers. There will be some “loaner” drums, but bring your own if you have one. This is a great community event for anyone who would like to experience something a little different. Come join in or just listen or dance. Outside, weather permitting. Free Event.


Writers Read

Friday, August 11th, 2:00 - 5:00 pm

Novelists, Poets, Bloggers, Playwrights, Short Story Writers. Come listen. Come Participate! All are welcome. This group is open to the public, as encouragement for other writers, and a window on the creative process. Local writers will read and discuss their works. ‘Open mic’ for writers.  Free Event.


“Mama Told Me Not To Come”

Friday, August 11th, 6:30 - 9:30 pm

DJ Mike, host of The Strange Brew Radio Show, will be spinning selections of Rock, Pop, Soul from the 60’s, 70’s, and beyond... so lets get Groovy! Free Event.


Boquete ArtWorks

Friday, August 18th, 2 - 4 pm

This month’s topic to be announced. Please note an earlier time to accomodate the BCP’s Radio Show presentation which starts at 5 pm.  Come for art, stay for live action & laughs! 


“Make Art” Sip & Paint

Saturday, August 19th, 4:00 - 6:00 pm

Come have fun and make art! You will be instructed in creating a painting, supplies will be included (canvas, paints, brushes)… you will leave with a unique piece of art that YOU created!  This event is run by Make Art, a company in David. Class is taught in English and Spanish by bilingual instructors. Price is $20 / person and includes a glass of wine, or beer, or soda, or bottle of water. *** reservations are encouraged


Science Fiction ‘Fourth Fridays’ Friday

August 25th, 5 pm


Science Fiction Lovers Unite! Come join us as David Van Harn, curator of the Boquete Film Club, offers a monthly selection from classic and modern Sci Fi films. Arrive early for the best seats, and bring an appetite… special menu offerings will be available! This event is free, but a donation to the Boquete Film Club is encouraged.

Come early at 12:30 pm to learn or teach! Bring friends, or make new ones!


4 - 6 pm — Therapeutic Drumming

Have fun and reap the health benefits of community drumming. No experience necessary and there are usually a few loaner drums available if you don’t have one of your own. Drummers and listeners alike -- all are welcome! Free Event.



3 - 4 pm — Belly Dance Class 

(w/ live music)

Saroya is back and bellies are shaking! This is a fun way to exercise, shape and tone. Perfect for beginners and experienced dancers alike. Class price is $6.00.



10:00 am - 12:00 pm — Community Listening

Local 103.3 Radio Shows “Listen Up” and “The Strange Brew” will be streamed in the cafe… so come enjoy a cup of coffee, perhaps order some of the Fénix’s increasingly famous Banana ‘Paleo’ Pancakes… and hangout with two great radio shows, back-to-back. 



10:45 am — Single Seniors

This is a new group that has formed! And YOU are invited. Meet other ‘senior singles’ and co-create a group that will come together to support, share, and mingle. What is a ‘senior single’?… well, there are no hard and fast rules, and everyone is welcome… but in general this is a social group for those who may be living or traveling solo, and perhaps those who are a bit older and wiser than those ‘young kids these days’… ;-)


1:00 pm — Game Day

Come play with new friends and old! Euchre, Mexican Train... and more! The cafe has Mexican Train sets, playing cards, backgammon, scrabble, “Cards Against Humanity”, Trivia, Connect Four... whatever your flavor, it’s here!




Panama Catalyst --- Grow Your Business Workshop 

August 17th, 1:00 - 2:30 pm

Cost: $20

You can take your business to the next level in this 90 minute hands-on workshop.  Bring your laptop and imagination to reach a new business level in the next 3-6 months.  In the workshop, you will develop (or update)  your business goals and improve your business plan to turn the goals into reality.   The business plan writing starts with the basics of:  Product, Price, Place, Promotion which leads to Profit. We will talk about the digital, global marketplace and how your business can reach new customers.  This workshop is created for the existing business owners in Boquete who want to increase sales and income.    


Business Coach, Kirsten Kent Peck has been involved with startup businesses and teaching people how to be successful for many years in New York and Florida.  Her new business - Panama Catalyst combines her love to teaching with promotions and business development for our community.  It includes an Incubator, Venture Funding, a Publishing Platform and a Chamber of Commerce for Entrepreneurs.  Attend the workshop and catch the energy!


Drawing Class

August 30 - September 27, Wednesdays 10:30 am - 12 noon

“Drawing is what you see, flattened on the picture plane.  The purpose of this class is to reduce conflict between the brain modes by causing your langugae mode to drop out of the task, and bring your right brain to the forefront of activity.  Exercise by exercise, you will begin to gain confidence, drawing on your ability to SEE what is actually there.


We will be using a professionally written workbook, by Betty Edwards of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.  Additional material will be added as the need arises.


Cost: $22 Workbook; $65 Instruction;

Saturday: 9 - 10 am Gentle Hatha


60 minute yoga classes are $6.00; 90 minute Ashtanga is $9.00

The Fénix is located in the BCP Event Complex, across the downtown bridge, immediately on the right.  Look for the sign, and the large parking lot.
