2 dead 6 injured in separate Capira crashes

Two people died and six were injured within 12 hours in separate accidents in the Capira, in the province of Panama Oeste on Sunday, March 19.

The first incident was at eight on Sunday morning when the  20 years old,  driver of a white sedan, lost his life after colliding with a tree on the Inter-American Highway, near Villa Rosario. His 2 passengers were injured.

The second fatal crash occurred in Perequeté, in the afternoon when a woman driver collided with a pickup. First responders worked for 20 minutes before declaring her dead. Both her passengers were injured.

Two traffic deaths lift year’s total to 118

 A 65-year-old woman died after being run over by a taxi driver on Via Cincuentenario, Parque Lefevre corregimiento, near the police center at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 10. The elderly woman died at the Arnulfo Arias Madrid hospital complex. The same day   a 4-year-old girl died at the Children's Hospital after falling from a moving pick-up truck on the road near Cañita, Chepo on Sunday evening Nationwide and so far this year, 118 people have died due to traffic incidents, according to a report from the Traffic Police.

One death and12 injured resulted from a traffic accident, involving ten vehicles in the Antón district, Coclé province, on the afternoon of Friday, May 12. The Panama Fire Department attended the accident on the Pan-American highway, at the entrance to Santa Clara. Witnesses said the driver of the bus appeared to lose control and crashed into cars in the parking lot. of a local restaurant. Police arrived and said the dead person was a sixty year old man.

180 traffic deaths so far this year

Traffic statistics so far this year reveal 180 fatalities, according to the National Directorate of Traffic Operations of the National Police with the latest death on Saturday of a motorcyclist not wearing a helmet.

Other causes, include: speeding, not using the elevated bridges, Intake of alcoholic beverages, not using a seat belt, and distraction while driving.

Second Lieutenant César Marciaga, from the DNOT, recommended that pedestrians use the high bridges, the zebra lines and drivers respect speed limits, traffic signs, not handle cell phones while driving, avoid drinking alcoholic beverages and when seeing a pedestrian crossing the road, stop the vehicle and give them courtesy.

Police officer killed by a drunk driver

Second Lieutenant Amir Martínez, 43, who served in the National Directorate of Transit Operations, was killed by a car while attending a traffic incident. The 25-year-old driver who had a blood alcohol level of 71, fled the scene but was captured Saturday soon after.

The event occurred at dawn, at Los Ruices, in the district of Las Palmas, f Veraguas. After the impact was transferred by ambulance to the Los Ruices Health Center to the Veraguas regional hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Office of the Attorney General, through its official Twitter account, reported that the Las Palmas Municipal Ombudsman is in charge of carrying out an investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident.

The Director General of the National Police, John Dornheim, together with the members of the Directorate, officers, classes, agents, and non-sworn personnel, expressed their deep sorrow for the death of Second Lieutenant Amir Martínez.

Dornheim highlighted the commitment and dedication of the officer, who lost his life fulfilling his duty to “Protect and Serve.”

Bloody weekend on Chiriqui roads leaves three dead and six injured

In less than 24 hours, three people lost their lives in different traffic events in Chiriquí raising the highway death toll in the province so far this year to 65 and the national total to 207.

According to the National Directorate of Traffic Operations (DNOT), it was a case of hit-and-run in Boquerón, a collision, and crash in Bugaba, and a crash and rollover case in the Tolé district.

The first case occurred at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, when Virgilio Jiménez, 48, died at the entrance to the Bágala community, in the Boquerón district.

His body was left lying on the Pan-American highway, after being hit by a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old, who remains under the orders of the authorities. On Sunday afternoon, at approximately 3:30 pm, a young man identified as Antony Francechi, died in a triple crash under the elevated bridge that leads to the Pablo Espinoza de Bugaba Polyclinic.

Three others were injured and treated by paramedics and transported to a medical center.

Finally, at 4:06 in the afternoon, another crash-type traffic accident and rollover was reported on the Pan-American Highway, near the Tabasará in Tolé leaving three seriously injured and one fatality, who died inside the vehicle.

Police chase ends with a collision and one suspect detained

After a police pursuit that began in the Pacora sector east of Panama City, the National Police captured a man who was transporting a large amount of cash and several packages that are presumed to be illegal substances. In addition, two firearms were seized in the vicinity of the Tocumen International Airport.

Deputy Commissioner Jorge Bryant, Chief of the Don Bosco Police Zone, said that at the time of the pursuit, the car in which the suspect was traveling invaded the opposite lane and ended up colliding with another vehicle, a moment that was used by the other companions to escape among the grasslands.

He said that, at this time, they are maintaining strong operations to find the capture of these subjects who are possibly linked to drug trafficking crimes

Speeding hit-and-run driver kills two

Two people were killed at dawn on Saturday, by a hit-and-run driver as they tried to cross the lanes of Los Mártires. The accident occurred in the direction of the Las Américas bridge towards Avenida Omar Torrijos.

Major Eustiquio Cedeño of the National Directorate of Transit Operations of the National Police indicated that the victims are an approximately 30-year-old young woman and a 22-year-old young man, who tried to cross the road in a section where there is a wall in the middle of the road to prevent the passage of pedestrians.

He added that the Public Ministry is already conducting pertinent investigations into the case.

According to the preliminary report, the car involved in the case is a dark-colored sedan whose driver was traveling at high speed, so video surveillance cameras are being analyzed in order to locate his whereabouts.

The 24-year-old hit-and-run driver who ran over, and killed at dawn on Saturday, August 5, a man and a woman on Avenida de Los Mártires, in the capital city, turned himself in on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner Reyes González, in charge of the Arraiján Police Zone, said the suspect turned himself in at the headquarters of the National Directorate of Judicial Investigation ( DNIJ ), in Vacamonte, province of Panama West.

González pointed out that the voluntary surrender of the person allegedly linked to the transit event was possible thanks to the operations carried out by the National Police and the Public Ministry to identify him and find his whereabouts.

After the delivery, the DNIJ units issued an arrest warrant against the man, since he is being requested by the Metropolitan Area Homicide and Femicide Prosecutor's Office.

He will be placed under the orders of the Prosecutor's Office, whose staff will be responsible for presenting him before a guarantee judge to prosecute the fatal hit-and-run case in which a 30 -year- old woman and a 22-year-old man lost their lives.

n Saturday it was learned that the blow that the victims received was so strong that one flew through the air and fell on the opposite road, while the other was trapped on the hood of the vehicle for several minutes before falling to the pavement, near the Avenida de los Mártires bridge, so it is presumed that the driver was speeding.

Four weekend traffic deaths raise year’s slaughter to 248

During the weekend, foue fatalities were registered due to traffic accidents, 3 due to a collision (Chilibre, Omar Torrijos, and Chiriquí), and 1 due to being run over (Vía Domingo Díaz).

The National Directorate of Traffic Operations (DNOT) applied 7,392 tickets for violations of the Traffic Regulations. Among the infractions 1,096 for speeding, 148 for proven drunkenness, and 70 for alcoholic breath.

The National Police reported that in the last 72 hours, 323 traffic accidents were recorded, 7,392 drivers were penalized, 148 were removed from circulation who marked high levels of alcohol allowed for driving, and 1,261 for neglecting signs.

Panama Traffic deaths exceed one a day

The number of days in the year to date (258), has been exceeded by the 262  victims of traffic accidents that have been recorded in Panama.

This was confirmed by the National Directorate of Transit Operations. The latest deaths due to collisions were on the weekend in sectors such as Campana (two deaths), Chiriquí (one), and Arraiján (one).

In operations carried out in the last 24 hours, 2,269 traffic violations were issued nationwide, including 338 for exceeding speed limits, 23 for proven drunkenness, and 235 for inappropriate lights.

Death of 85-year-old lifts traffic toll to 289

Darío González, 85 years old, died after being run over by the driver of a sedan car,  on the Panamerican highway, Penonomé, Coclé, near the Campos workshop on  Wednesday, October 18.

The victim, who lived in El Barrigón de El Copé, died at the Aquilino Tejeira hospital, as a result of being hit by the vehicle.

At the national level, there have been 289 fatalities due to traffic events so far this year

Police rescue 6 from car in sea

A vehicle carrying 6 people, including a 6-year-old girl, suffered a vehicle accident on Sunday morning on the main road of the Portobelo district on the Costa Arriba of Colón.

It was after 9:00 am when a vehicle was heading towards the coast, it left the road and hit the rocks on the seashore.

Upon impact, the vehicle overturned with its tires facing upwards. Agents from the National Police of Portobelo immediately came to the aid of these people because the accident occurred a few meters from this police station.

The six people were taken to the emergency room of the Portobelo Health Center, where they were given first aid and transferred in ambulances from this facility and from the Nombre de Dios Health Center and the Panamanian Red Cross to the emergency room. emergencies of the Dr. Manuel Amador Guerrero hospital complex.

Upon arrival at this hospital, it was learned that 5 adults and a minor under 6 years of age were traveling in the vehicle.

One of the adults had a deep injury on her forehead, the other patient had difficulty breathing.

The minor suffered trauma to her left ankle. One of the male passengers had several bruises all over his body and the other man had severe whiplash syndrome. The sixth passenger had minor injuries.

Rollover of speeding drunk driver captured on camera

A spectacular rollover was captured by the cameras of the video surveillance center of the San Miguelito district on the José Domingo Díaz road near Monte Oscuro on Tuesday February 13.

Fortunately there was little traffic on the road.

The vehicle with an impaired driver behind the wheel was traveling at excess speed on the Domingo Díaz road close to the Cinquantenario metro station and the Roosevelt vehicular bridge. Personnel from the “Florencio Arosemena” Fire Station in Paraíso and paramedics from SUME 911 arrived at the scene and when attending to the driver of the vehicle, confirmed drunkenness after registering 76 mg/dl in the breathalyzer test.

Despite the traffic operations carried out during the carnival days, road accidents due to alcohol consumption were frequent nationwide, leaving at least four fatalities, according to the latest report from the Joint Task Force.

Five  road deaths, 398 accidents during Carnival

The crawl back to the capital following the Carnival of 142,243   vehicles that traveled to the interior is underway.

The National Police reported that from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, the reversal of lanes will be enabled in two sections to facilitate the return of people. The inversion of the roads will be from El Nance de San Carlos to Sajalices and the other section from Campana to La Espiga de La Chorrera.

While for Ash Wednesday, February 14, the investment of roads in those sectors will begin from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

According to figures from the National Directorate of Traffic Operations of the National Police to Telemetro, the return of approximately 81,667 vehicles had been recorded by mid-morning.

 Over 14,000 f drivers would be arriving home with tickets issued for various infractions including cases 2,456 cases  of excessive speed, driving while intoxicated, and, unfortunately, accidents that have left fatal victims

Since the start of the carnivals, a total of 398 accidents have been attended to, which has led to an increase in penalties imposed on drivers.

“There have been 159 injured people and five fatalities, of which three have been caused by an accident.”

Van killed her and then crashed into another vehicle on the road
Brigitte Eillen Wedderburns Castillo, 47, died on Saturday night in a hit-and-run traffic accident, collision and rollover on the road leading from Boquete to Dolega, in the province of Chiriquí.
It all happened at about 9:10 pm in the French sector of Boquete, when a pick-up vehicle upon arriving in front of the entrance to the Poma Rosa neighborhood lost control and hit the injured woman with the right side of the wagon.
It simultaneously collided with the front left side of another pickup vehicle until it fell over its right side.
The site was attended by paramedics from the fire brigade, who attended to three injured people and then officials from the Boquete Personnel, together with Forensics the lifting of the body.
To date, 20 deaths due to traffic accidents have been recorded in 2024 in Chiriqui province.
