A 35-year-old passenger in a speeding vehicle with drunk driver behind the wheel was killed when the car overturned in the Lídice community, on the road to Cerro Trinidad in the Capira district on Sunday morning The driver was treated and will be taken to a hearing to determine responsibility and charges

Five police injured in car chase

A National Police lieutenant and four police officers were injured near midnight on Sunday May 9 while pursuing a white Kia Picanto vehicle, whose occupants fired shots at the police car which crashed into a power pole in Rio Abajo.

Two injured in taxi accident

The driver of a taxi carrying four passengers lost control of the car and fell onto the doorway of a house in the La Siesta sector, of Tocumen on Sunday. Two passengers were injured and taken to hospital.

One person was killed and three critically injured on Via Espana near the Avesa building in the capital city when the driver of a speeding pickup truck lost control at dawn on Saturday, October 9. According to preliminary reports at least four vehicles were involved in the incident

Drunk driver runs over foreign cyclists

A drunk driver ran over two foreign cyclists on the Cinta Costera near the Seafood Market in Panama City at around 10.30 on Sunday morning. The driver fled the scene but was stopped by members of the Naval Air Service (SENAN) at a nearby roundabout.

The injured cyclists, one Italian and one Uruguayan had to be transferred to a local hospital. Their condition is unknown.

According to the National Operation Center "The DNOT  carried out a breathalyzer test, marking 75 mg / dl, (proven drunkenness)," they explain on their Twitter account.

3 dead one seriously hurt in dawn crash

Three officials of a Bocas del Toro community board died at dawn on Monday, October 18 and one was seriously injured when the driver, of their small panel bus, swerved to avoid a  pothole and collided with an oncoming dump truck heading to Changuinola.

The incident occurred at 5:40 a.m. in the Los Chiricanos community, near the Chiriquí Grande district.

Highway death toll reaches 184

The death toll on Panama highways this year climbed to184  on Tuesday, October 19  when the driver of a truck  on Via Forestal veered into the path of an oncoming taxi. the taxi was destroyed and its driver died at the scene.

The province of Panama is the one with the most fatalities with a total of 55 this year.

A 21-year- old soccer player was killed and eight players were injured on Sunday, November 21 when the driver of the coaster-type bus, transporting the BURI Fútbol Club team lost control and the vehicle overturned on the road to Chiriquí Grande, in the Rambala district, in the province of Bocas del Toro. The team was returning from a sporting event in Changuinola.

Two dead one seriously injured in taxi crash

Two people were killed and a third seriously injured on the road leading to La Pintada in Coclé province on Tuesday, afternoon  November 23 when a speeding taxi collided violently with a fixed object . Two occupants, one a minor died at the scene. It is said that one of the deceased is a minor.

The one who survived was seriously injured and was taken by Fire Department ambulance to the Aquilino Tejeira Hospital in Penonomé

Holiday weekend two dead, 4,702 ticketed

Luis Hernández, from the National Directorate of Traffic Operations of the National Police, revealed on Monday, November 29, that during the national holidays there were two deaths from traffic accidents.

During the last 72 hours, there were 264 traffic accidents, which left a total of 47 injured.

Police issued 4,702 tickets, of which 176 were for driving "under the influence of alcohol."

A total of 1,369 fines were also imposed for speeding driving during the celebration of Panama's independence from Spain.

Carbon monoxide kills couple in parked car

Two young people, aged 25 and 23, were found dead inside a parked vehicle on  Second Street in the Don Bosco sector, on Sunday morning December 19.

According to preliminary reports, the couple allegedly fell asleep inside the red Kia sedan with the engine running and prolonged inhalation of carbon monoxide led to their deaths.

The Deputy Commissioner Hector Delgado, of the Don Bosco Police Zone, reported that residents reported about the two people, apparently lifeless, in a sedan, and they went to check with staff of 911 emergency.

Relatives identified the bodies.

Four dead 36 injured in traffic accidents

Police stress the importance of maintaining a safe distance when driving.

 Four people died and 36 were injured in 90 traffic accidents in the  24 hours preceding the Sunday morning, December 26, release of a National Police Operations report.

Deputy Commissioner Luis Hernández said that 1,260 drivers received tickets for traffic violations 358 for exceeding the speed limits and 194 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

He reiterated the call to people that, if they are going to drink alcohol during the end-of-year festivities, to have a designated driver or use public transport.

In addition, urged drivers to wear a seatbelt and avoid technological devices while driving.

3 dead 50 injured in weekend traffic accidents

The National Directorate of Traffic Operations of the National Police, revealed on  Monday, January 24, that weekend traffic accidents in three days left three dead. There were 208 accidents, resulting in 50 injuries. 5,329 fines were issued due to various traffic violations, of which 163 were for driving while intoxicated and, 1,546  for speeding.

Two pre-adolescent girls, one 12 and another 14, died and three other minors (3, 12, and 14 years) were injured, one of them seriously, when the beach vehicle in which they were traveling overturned on an internal road in the Coronado sector on the weekend.

 All the injured were transferred to the emergency room of the Nicolás A. Solano regional hospital in La Chorrera.

The three survivors of the accident were transferred by ambulance to another medical center in the capital city.

At least 12 injured in multiple vehicle pile-up

At least a dozen people were injured in a multiple  rush-hour collision that occurred on Monday, April 11, on the Boyd Roosevelt highway, near Ciudad Bolívar leading to massive traffic congestion

According to police reports, the incident was triggered by the failure of a  dump truck’s brakes.

At least 10 vehicles were involved including several that overturned. The injured were treated by paramedics from the Single Emergency Service (SUME-911).

Brake failure kills one injures 10

One person was killed and 10 injured when the brakes of an articulated truck and the driver lost control of the loaded vehicle on the night of Wednesday, April 27, on the Transístmica road, near Las Lajas, in Las Cumbres. The truck collided with five vehicles, including a motorcycle before crashing into a house where a person died after being trapped in the debris.

Another cyclist died on Sunday morning after being struck by a pickup truck in the Farallón sector, Coclé province.

Prevention campaigns, for both cyclists and drivers, have intensified in recent years after similar accidents that have claimed the lives of athletes and cyclists in general.

Sunday’s accident is added to others like the one that occurred in September 2015 when the cyclist and triathlete Mónica Licona died after being run over on Balboa Avenue, in the capital city.

Another similar event occurred in September 2020 when cyclists Juan Carlos Heilbron and Javier Espinosa died after being run over in El Carate de Las Tablas, Los Santos province

A triple collision left one person dead and three injured n the Transístmica highway, near the University of Panama at 3 am on Tuesday.

The speeding male driver,25, hit three vehicles before crashing into a tree on an islet. He died on the spot

In the previous 24 hours at the national level, the Traffic Police reported some 69 traffic accidents resulting in one fatality and 27 injured.

In total, 1,495 traffic violations were applied, among them, 98 were for proven drunkenness, 491 for exceeding speed limits, and 84 for inadequate lights.

The statistics add up to approximately 88 fatalities nationwide due to traffic events.

One dead  25 injured in triple traffic incident

An accident with a fatal victim and more than 20 injured, was recorded on Thursday in Juan Díaz, near the El Chimborazo restaurant when  a taxi collided head-on with a Metrobus. The driver of the taxi was killed.

According to Major Ángel Delgado, from the Panama Fire Department, 25 people were injured, 24 of

with minor injuries. The bus driver was seriously injured.

Witnesses to the event, the drivers of the taxi and another  sedan had been arguing about the

road, and there was a collision between their vehicles, and  the taxi collided with the Metrobus

Ambulances from various entities cared for the injured, including several students.

Unlicensed drunk driver kills motorcyclist

A drunk driver involved in a police chase after he evaded two police checkpoints before hitting and killing a motorcyclist in Bethania on Monday night was driving without a license. The driver registered a reading of 125 on the breathalyzer. The 24-year-old cyclist was the 110th victim of a traffic accident this year

Two critical among 16 injured in bus crash

Sixteen people were injured, two critically- on Friday afternoon on the Pan-American highway, in Bágala in Boquerón, Chiriquí when  the driver of  a bus lost control during a persistent downpour

The bus  turned several times before colliding with a power line pole.

 The injured included  two minors between 9 and 17 years old and 14 adults between the ages of 20 and 60.

Paramedics and rescuers from the Bugaba Fire Department attended and transferred the injured to the Pablo Espinoza Polyclinic  and the ER of the Rafael Hernández Regional Hospital in David.

Bloody Sunday in Panama West

Eight deaths from traffic accidents have been confirmed by the National Police in Panama Oeste.

The event that left the most fatalities was on the road to Las Mendoza, in front of the Loma Linda neighborhood, where four people died.

The death of three people was confirmed during a reported traffic accident on the Inter-American Highway, in the Costa Verde sector.

There was another fatal victim  Sunday on the Inter-American Highway, in the Valle Hermoso sector, Arraiján district, where the vehicle involved ended up in a ditch.

Data provided by the National Police, show that a total of 989 infractions were placed in the last 24 hours at the national level. Among them, 217 for exceeding speed limits, 34 for inadequate lights and 51 for proven drunkenness.

One dead five rescued as vehicles swept away

Two 4X4  vehicles were swept away, on Sunday night, by the flooding of the La Pita stream, in the Carlos Santana Ávila district, Veraguas province.

One person died and five were rescued, reported the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc).

The 46-year-old driver of one of the vehicles was trapped, while the rest were able to get out e and climb onto a nearby island.

Officials from Sinaproc and the Fire Department participated in the search and rescue operation.

Sinaproc reiterated that it issued a national prevention notice, which will last until August 24, due to the entry into the country of tropical wave No. 29.

The call was made to the population to be aware of the levels of the rivers and streams.

So far this year 13 people have died in similar incidents said Carlos Rumbo Director of Sinaproc.
