A pedestrian was killed by a hit and run driver, in Dolega, in front of the towers of Radio Chiriquí on the road to Boquete on Sunday morning, September  15. Police are looking for the driver

The victim was the fifth to be run down since Thursday, three in Chiriqui bringing the province road deaths in less than nine months to 36 and the national total to 202. Two pedestrians were run down in separate incidents in Colon on Saturday

Chiriqui cyclist killed by taxi pickup

The highway death toll in Chiriqui this year rose to 37 on Sunday when a cyclist was hit and killed by a pickup taxi in La Loma de San Pedro. The number of traffic accident victims across the country stands at 203.

“Fast and Furious" taxi driver loses license, fined $2,500

One of two taxi drivers who participated in a “fast and furious” race through the streets of Chilibre in the early hours of Tuesday, September  18  had had his demolition derby ambitions put on hold after being fined $2,500. having his license suspended for six months and his car towed.

The videoed drag race appeared on social media and the  National Police are looking for the other taxi driver.

Fatal crash causes rush hour traffic block

A 31-year old  4x 4  pickup driver was killed in a collision with an articulated truck carrying sand during the Monday morning September  23 rush hour. The accident caused a major traffic jam as thousands of motorists headed from the interior to the city. Panama’s  highway death toll in the  first 174 days of the year stands at 205.

Five passengers hurt as Metrobus hits house

 Five passengers  were injured when  a  Metrobus plowed  into a house in the Parque Lefevre  district of Panama  Viejo on Friday morning, September 27

A statement from the MiBus company said  that the injured were taken to a hospital and that none of the residents of the house were injured. The company said it is investigating the causes of the accident.

A cow wandering loose on the road to Nuevo Emperador, Arraiján, caused the death of a car passenger t on Sunday morning, September 29. The speeding driver hit the animal and lost control of the vehicle. His passenger was killed and the driver was taken to Nicolás A. Solano Hospital with multiple injuries. The accident raises the death toll on Panama highways this rear to 208

Woman with birth pangs, one of 3 killed in accident

A 22-year old pregnant woman her police corporal husband and his brother were killed on Sunday morning, September 29 when their car was hit by a sedan that ignored a stop sign in the Pocri district of Agualulce, Cocle Province when she was on her way to give birth. A fourth person in their car was injured along with two people in the other vehicle.

Police have not confirmed that the other driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Drunk taxi driver kills one injures six

One person was killed and six hospitalized when a taxi, crashed on the Arriajan-Chorrera highway at 4.30 am on Sunday, September 29.

The taxi driver was declared impaired after a breathalyzer test,

Regional units of the Fire Department of Panama in La Chorrera had to cut the roof of a taxi free the injured, who were admitted to the emergency room of the Nicolás Alejo Solano Hospital.

A good Samaritan woman who stopped to help an injured motorcyclist in Pacora, Panama East on Sunday afternoon, September 29  was hit and killed by a green devil bus, which ended up in a ditch. The driver is in custody.

She was one of 11 who died in a weekend of highway carnage that included hit and run killings, drunk drivers and the death of a pregnant woman and her husband on their way to a hospital for the birth of their child.

There were two more deaths early on Monday one in Cabra, Panama East  where a man was hit by a  black truck which fled the scene and a taxi driver was killed in an accident near the health center in Veracruz raising the death toll on Panama roads in the first nine months of the year to 215

A man accused of causing the traffic accident that killed a pregnant woman her husband and brother in Pocr de Aguadulce on Sunday afternoon is in preventive detention charged with of aggravated wrongful death.

The 22- year-old mother pf two and her police corporal husband were on the way to a hospital for the delivery of the baby in a vehicle driven by her brother. The couple died on the spot after the collision. Her brother died from his injuries after being taken to. hospital.

Meanwhile on, October 1, police located in the Las Mañanitas area, a vehicle that was involved in a hit and run killing on Sunday night in Cabra, Panama East. The vehicle belongs to the Pedregal Community Board, but it is still unknown who was driving it that night. Investigations are continuing.

35 injured in separate  bus accidents

At least 35 people were injured in two separate bus crashes on Friday, October 4.

The first incident involving at least 19 passengers occurred in the morning on the Cinta Costera  3 when the driver of a  Panama -Arriajan “green devil) (recycled US school bus)  lost control and plunged into a ditch.  A massive traffic jam followed as the injured were treated or ferried to medical centers and   two cranes arrived to remove the bus

The second overturned green devil was in the afternoon on the Transistmic Way, at the exit of the Panama-Colón Highway, Preliminary reports listed 16 people injured.

A woman Passenger was killed when a speeding car crashed in Juan Díaz de Antón, Cocle province, on Monday, October 9 bringing the highway death total for the year to 221. Speed. alcohol and inattention to signs are the three main causes of traffic accidents.

Two men who failed to stop at a checkpoint in the Arraiján district were killed when their car crashed on the main street of Omar Torrijos in Burunga during a high-speed police chase on Thursday night, October 10. The Colombian driver,  of the fleeing vehicle, lost control and hit a  power post and a tree.

The Coclé Superior Court of Appeals of confirmed on Thursday, the decision of a judge of guarantees and Rafael González, 30  charged with manslaughter and aggravated personal injuries will remain in preventive detention for six months.

González was involved in an accident in  Pocr de Aguadulce. that led to the deaths of a pregnant woman,22, on her way to hospital to give birth, her husband, a police corporal, and her brother.

3 dead, 3 injured as pickup ploughs into bus stop

Two people were killed and three injured when the driver of a pickup, slammed into a bus stop after colliding with a sedan on the José Agustín Arango road , in  Villa Lorena, Río Abajo during a heavy downpour on Saturday morning, October 12.

A woman standing at the stop was killed instantly.  The second victim died on the way to the San Miguel Arcángel hospital.

A third person arrived without vital signs at the Manuel María Valdés hospital.

Passing motorists and customers in two nearby shops rushed to assist the victims before the arrival of Sume 911 Emergency Service ambulances.

The latest deaths raise the toll on Panama roads this year to  226.

One person died and two were injured in a multi-vehicle pileup on Via Centenario near the Rod Carew Stadium at noon on Friday, October 11. The accident led to an hours-long traffic jam.  The victims were  rushed to Santo Tomas hospital, but one, aged 23 died soon after arriving at the emergency room.

The driver of a speeding pickup that killed three people waiting for a bus in Villa Lorena on Saturday morning  October 12 is in preventive  detention charged with wrongful death

Ricardo Valdez Delgado appeared before a judge on Sunday and will remain behind bars for six months while the Public Ministry investigates.

A video circulating on social media shows the pickup traveling in heavy rain before it hit a sedan and then plowed into the bus stop.

One woman died at the site and two other people died on the way to the medical centers where they were taken by staff of the Single Emergency Management Service (SUME-911)

A speeding taxi driver in his early twenties was killed on the Corridor Norte on Sunday morning, October 20, when he lost control of his vehicle which was impaled on a guard rail. The driver was thrown from the car which burst into flames. On Saturday in Chiriqui, a motorcyclist crashed into a ditch  and was killed. The two deaths bring Panama’s highway death toll this year to 231

Survivors and relatives of the 18 people killed in the 8B-06 bus fire in La Cresta, Panama   13 years ago marked the anniversary by painting blue hearts on the road at the site on Martín Sosa Avenue Wednesday, October 23.

"We  can never forget this date," said nurse Lidia Atencio, one of the survivors of the tragedy.”It was the day on which "the transport system in the country. collapsed"

According to Atencio, since that date there have been significant changes in the transport system, but all "at a slow pace…vehicle accidents continue to be the order of the day, due to the lack of courtesy and risking lives," she added.

On the afternoon of October 23, 2006, a bus on the Corredor - Mano de Piedra route caught fire, resulting in the death of 18 people and permanent injuries to the bodies of 25 others who survived.

One person was killed and five injured in a  three-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer, a pickup and a sedan on Saturday morning, October 26  in El Pelón' on the Transistmica highway in Las Cumbres.

The latest death brings the highway toll so far this year to  232.

On Sunday at least 11 were injured in a multi-vehicle pileup triggered by a pirate bus near the Bridge of the America. Ten of the injured were passengers in the bus heading for Panama Oeste.

Over 7,000 tickets and 358-weekend accidents

Police handed out over 7,000  traffic violation tickets on the weekend including 2,000 for speeding and 347 for alcohol intake, contributing to 358 accidents leading to one death and dozens injured. There have been 235 highway deaths so far this year and police authorities are warning , motorists to drive with care during next week’s national celebrations when scores of thousands head for the interior.

Four injured, five cars wrecked as truck brakes fail

Four people were hospitalized and five cars severely damaged when they were hit by a truck whose brakes failed on the Arriajan Chorrera highway on Friday afternoon. November 8. Some of the vehicles were completely destroyed leaving the route covered with wreckage and causing a  major traffic snarl as people headed for a long weekend in the interior.

Blitz on drunk drivers as 7 die on Panama roads

A  hit and run driver behind the wheel of a taxi that killed a pedestrian in the Cochea sector of David, Chiriqui on Sunday, November 17 was filmed by another motorist who passed the evidence to the police. The driver later turned himself in.

The victim was the 42nd person killed on Chiriqui roads this year and the first of seven early week highway deaths. bringing the national toll this year to 291.

One man was killed and two people injured in Cañazas, Veraguas.

In Arraiján – a  man was killed by a hit and run driver of a van on the La Chorrera highway, near Westland Mall.

In  Sabanitas, the driver of a bus on the Vigía - Colón route hit and killed a cyclist.

Another cyclist training for an event was killed in Penonome.

In Coclé Raúl Hernández, 51, died in the hospital after suffering serious injuries in a collision on Monday afternoon.

The surge of deaths, sparked a police crackdown on impaired drivers and at one checkpoint in Panama City on Tuesday evening 10 drivers were fined and their cars towed.

Police authorities warn that the blitz on dunk driving will be extended.
