Penny
It's been more than a year since the city of David installed hundreds of parking meters. At first the Panamanian wouldn't use them as they didn't want to pay. Then (from what I understand) somebody filed a lawsuit against the city and we were told not to feed the meters. It's been a long time and nobody is putting any money into the meters and apparently there aren't any parking tickets being issued.Do we still use the parking card in places there are no meters?Curious (and dull) minds want to know. Hil
I haven't gotten a ticket here. I park all around town. I see no cards in windows, I stopped using a card and no tickets are being issued. I fed the meters one time and a local stopped me from feeding one a second time. I heard it's still up in the air on legality. Free is my way until ticketed. Don Ray
As far as I know they were declared illegal and nothing has been put in place to collect parking charges. I haven't gotten any tickets and I am putting no money in them.
Richard Kongable
Why didn't they know that before they installed the meters? Geez.

Don Ray
Come on Richard. You know the answer. One administration was getting kickback for the contract. The next administration stopped it.

JoJo
Trusting my memory may not be a good idea, but seems I recall reading that the meters were unconstitutional?
Brundageba
Wierd. So what about the tickets we sued to have to buy to park close to the center of David? Now that was a pain !

Brundageba
...hold um. Might see them in action again.....ya never know. What could possibly be unconstitutional about a parking meter?
JoJo
Don't know, I don't make the news I just reported what I read. LOLI take a taxi everywhere, so it doesn't affect me one way or the other. Just seems to be a waste of time and money for nothing. Keith Woolford
The Supreme Court has annulled 5 clauses of the Parking Meter contract in David, including hourly rates and the schedule of fines for violations. With those parameters deleted, there's no basis for a contract, according to the Chamber of Commerce of David. TVN says they tried to contact the Contractor by telephone but their published numbers have been disconnected. http://www.tvn-2.com/nacionales/provincias/Corte-articulos-medulares-estacionamientos-David_0_4753774644.html Edited May 11, 2017 by Keith Woolford
