Price was never more than 50 cents per liter at any station along the way. I believe it was a Delta station in Santiago where 44 cents per liter was posted. The lowest prices per litre are in Panama City which increase slightly across the country based on distance from the tank farm there. We pay a few pennies more per litre here in Boquete to cover cost of transport as can be seen in this price list from an earlier period. Our experience on the recent trip to PC and back that Marcelyn mentioned above is that there are sometimes many pennies of differences in price even within the same city. She mentioned Santiago. But within Santiago, just for only one example, there were as much as 4 cents difference per liter. And the fuel was more expensive in PC as compared to other cities along the way. We see differences all the time here in Boquete between the Delta station and the Terpel in Alto Boquete (Windy City area). Since they're adjusted every second Friday prices have usually changed at least once between most motorist's tank fillups. Of course, there's also the "sorry, no ladder available to change the sign" possibility. Here are the current prices until January 8th as published in the Gaceta Oficial and that's what the pumps need to be set at. The next adjustments are on the 8th and they'll probably be announced tomorrow. The price is "set" by a government agency based on the various regions in the country is what I hear you saying. What is a customer supposed to do when the price at a pump is not in accordance with the published rate schedule? I, for one, would not complain if the price is lower at the pump, but can I require the station operator to reprice the total bill for my diesel fuel if their rate is higher? Or should I report a station if their price is above the scheduled rate to a government agency? If so, I presume ACODECO would be the appropriate agency. If correct, that is not good news, given my prior experiences with ACODECO. There has been some prior discussion on CL regarding that agency. I just know what my experiences have been. The first line of this resolution says 'Precios Maximos de Venta al Consumidor de Combusitibles Liquidos en Panama' or 'Maximum Consumer Prices of Liquid Fuels in Panama'. The National Secretariat of Energy adjusts prices every two weeks based on import costs and reserves. This table shows how fuel prices have fluctuated in Panama City over the last six months. They also increase incrementally according to distance from the storage facility beside the Canal so we pay a few pennies more up here near the end of the line. The price of a liter of 95 octane, that currently is sold at 68.2 cents a liter, will rise to 72.1 cents a liter. Meanwhile, 91 octane will go from 66.3 centers per liter to 70 cents. Diesel prices will go from 55.2 cents a liter to 59.4 cents a liter. The new prices will apply until Sept. 16. This is the second price increase in a row after a number of consecutive price drops.
