COME PLAY AND SUPPORT OUR LOCAL KIDS CAMP!

Please join the Boquete community in support of Kids Camp!

Volunteers will be hosting an adult scavenger hunt/road rally starting at Senior Gyros June 24th registration begins at 10:30 AM.  We hope to have you all on the hunt starting at 11. Groups must be 2 to 4 people.
We may be raising money for children but hope with your participation we can bring out the child in each and every one of you.

The price to play is only 10$ and all proceeds go straight to the Kids camp fund.

Every year we host 25 to 30 children from the orphanage most donations will go to sponsoring those children.   Making sure they have equal opportunities to participate in things like camps. ex- sports, music, swimming, and crafts.

We strongly suggest each team/group have a vehicle. You will also need a digital camera , and or a smart phone for taking pictures of clues as found.

Can't make it..?
We also have separate sponsorship programs. You can sponsor one child for the full season of kids camp for only $35. And as always any other donations are greatly appreciated.

For more information please refer to our Facebook Page which will be up and running in the next week.

I keep seeing charitable groups asking for sponsorships or donations but offering no information about HOW to donate. Come on, folks! There are many people ready and willing to donate to causes, particularly to children and animal causes, but few are going to take the time to research how to give. Making it easy to give is an essential protocol in charity work.  Sometimes the urge to give money is fleeting.

The replies on this topic struck a sensitive chord with the management of this website. When we were planning the structure of CL last fall, we discussed this issue at length. The end result was a special forum here on CL for the purpose of fundraising and donation requests. We placed words in the description specifically suggesting the minimum information to be provided. The above comments pretty much hit our hot buttons.

Our sensitivity to this subject comes from the fact that we (Marcelyn and Bud) are frequently approached for donations of all kinds and all sizes for a variety of reasons and variety of recipients -- on the order to two or three every week. As a result, we have come up with the term "donor fatigue".

Here is a link to the dedicated donation forum here on CL: http://www.chiriqui.life/forum/99-donations-fundraising/

To date, the number of postings in that forum are, surprise: ZERO. Maybe it is because members are not aware of the existence of that forum (that is what we choose to believe). However, there is always a lingering doubt.

Given that the vast majority (perhaps all?) of the email requests for donations, charity support, fundraising, etc., are distributed via News Boquete, maybe we should reconsider how that category of information dissemination should be handled. Or are we being just too skeptical?

We are not suggesting that legitimate charities be shunned. Quite the contrary. But the strong, broad desire for transparency suggests that we could support donations and charities in a better manner. Legitimate charities should be willing to provide a lot of information about their request without having to be asked.

CL member feedback is solicited, either by posting here, or by sending an email to support@chiriqui.life. It is possible that your response could be -- just let go of this. And if there is a large number of replies, then I will split off the related replies into a new topic.

In closing, we are NOT attacking the Kids' Camp or any other legitimate needy cause.

Bud and Marcelyn, It's not being used in large part, I would guess, because no one sees it. I just looked on the home page--went through the list of forums several times--and finally found it down under Personal Messages.

Moreover, the guidelines in the Donations and Fundraising forum strongly suggest that it is for donations to individuals as opposed to groups. How does it differ from the Charities forum? Why wouldn't a charity logically seek money in the Charity forum?

Simplify, simplify.

Good points. Will go into re-think mode.

I sure am tired of all the plea for help notices. How in the world can we know what "a legitimate needy cause" is?

Who is vetting these organizations that send out a request for money (and don't even name a person for contact if additional information is needed)? Too many of these requests. It is easy to send an e-mail requesting money or other donations and never report later about what happened to the money.

Oh yeah, my personal bank account is low. Send me money....

Focusing on the current request, the Santa Lucia Kids Camp is a legitimate organization that regularly received annual funding from Bid 4 Boquete when it was operative. It does wonderful work providing a summer program for children, particularly for the residents of Casa Trisker who otherwise have little to no opportunity for community recreation. As an "umbrella" charity, B4B required substantial documentation of an organization's legitimacy before granting that organization money. I don't want anything I have written to even suggest otherwise.

There ya go !   Thanks Bonnie.   I think Bud and Marcelyn have done well to consider this particular issue...donations.  A common nook for the charities that ask for donations is great.  I have not doubt folks just don't go looking for it in the menu...  So yup...it goes to Newslady.  Charities need the CL alert to post again here in the Donations-Fundraising location here.  (That was well said Bud and Marcelyn).  Then all the requests will be in one spot along with answers to questions like...Where do we send our money?   or  Who are these folks...never heard of this charitable group ?   Stuff like that.
