Some 240 firearms that are part of the National Police inventory remain “missing as reported this past Friday.  The weapons were in two of the National Police custody depots: bunker No. 2 of Horoko, located in Cocolí, and bunker No. 4 of Cerro Tigre, in Gamboa.  After learning of the disappearance of these weapons, the Police Department filed the corresponding complaints with the Public Prosecutor's Office.  For now, they indicated in a statement, they are continuing with an internal investigation to determine the whereabouts of the pistols. What happened? How did 240 weapons that are in the custody of the National Police go missing?  Preliminary investigations indicate that the disappearance of these weapons “dates back to years prior to the current administration, and so the processes to determine responsibilities in this case and take the necessary corrective measures are still in place.”  It was also learned that there are several reports on the disappearance of these weapons dating back to 2023 and 2024.  At the moment, there are two police officers detained for this case, but those who had custody of them declared that they did not carry out or have orders to search the people who entered these warehouses.
