Health Ministry withdraws Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream from the market

A European health alert has led the Ministry of Health (Minsa) to withdraw Häagen-Dazs brand vanilla ice cream from the market due to the presence of ethylene oxide

The health alert arose through a statement from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed Products of the European Union. AFP

The National Directorate of Food Control and Veterinary Surveillance of the Ministry reported Wednesday, August 17, that the company that distributes Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream, which is manufactured in France, withdrew it from sales points in the country.

"The contamination is found in the Madagascar vanilla extract used in its manufacture, which has affected several batches," the statement said.

Among the affected batches are: Vanilla terrine with unit weight 460 ml, batches: 4146758, 4156565, 4157457, 4163546, 4169920, 4172653, 4167054, 4222694, 4240220, 4246885, 42849604, 4289920

These lots have best before dates between July 15, 2022, and May 16, 2023.

Another batch affected is Vanilla terrine with EAN code 3415581101935, best before date between July 6, 2022, and May 21, 2023, unit weight of 460 ml.

Mini cup Vanilla Collection is also contaminated, in a varied presentation with four tubs, EAN code 3415581586718, best before dates between July 6, 2022 and May 21, 2023, unit weight 4x95 ml.
