NewsLady
As of July 1, 2022, the “trash certificate of good standing” is now required to do any transfers over real property at the Public Registry of Panama. This document must be issued by the National Trash Authority (for the Province of Panama); and by the competent authorities (municipalities) of Districts outside of the capital. No registrations or transfers on real property will be done by the Public Registry, without this document. This new requirement has been introduced through article 79 of law 276 of 2021 which issued a new “Trash Law: for the entire Republic of Panama. This law must be implemented by the National Trash Authority, in coordination with the Health Ministry and the local municipalities, within one year from its approval. Through this new law, the trash must be classified depending on its level of danger, origin and handling. The society must get involved, through the proper handling and separation of the trash, and through educational programs in order to achieve the recycling of inorganic waste and the processing (compost or others) of organic material. Through the National Plan for the handling of the trash, each municipality will have to incorporate into their rulings, provisions and guides for the proper handling and separation of the trash by the community. The law also contemplates fines for lack of compliance, so be aware that recycling must be implemented in your homes now, not only because is in the law, but because is our social responsibility and contribution with the environment.
