Geology Field Trips for 2021

The spectacular and diverse geology of the Boquete region has been the object

of popular caravan-style field excursions since 2017. In preparation for resumption of

field trips in 2021. Leader  Paul Myers is preparing a CONTACT LIST to notify people

of upcoming geological activities and manage sign-ups.

These 3 to 8-hour field trips (See tentative list below) are free and require observance

of COVID restrictions such as face masks, and 2 meter distancing. The shorter trips

involve minimal easy walking, whereas the longer ones are generally more strenuous.

 

Once you are on the Contact List  you will be eligible to sign up. You are reminded that

last-minute cancellations are strongly discouraged.  Once a field trip is "full"  you may

sign up as a "stand-by".    We will need to recruit volunteer drivers. Children under the

age of 10 are not eligible.

 

 

                     Beginner:  Boquete-Local  (3-hr morning)  "Reading Landscape -  Geologic Sequence, History"

                        Intermediate:     Boquete - Potrerios:   Surficial Processes, Mass Wastage  (4.5 hr morning)

                        Advanced:  Pre-Baru(? )Volcanism, Jaramllo, Caldera Petroglyphs, Gualaca Pk.  pyroclastic flow. 5hr)

                        Advanced:       Potrerios, Baru lahars  +  Volcan Baru Debris Avalanche  (7 hr)

                        Advanced:       Volcan + Baru National Pk, Caldera Interior (8 hr, more strenuous 2-3 miles walking)
