Why do people keep pushing this lie?  You cannot survive in Boquete (or Panama for that matter) for very long if you speak ONLY English.

I'd be willing to bet that there are hundreds and hundreds of people surviving in Boquete with extremely limited Spanish ("Yo quiero Taco Bell").

Of course, your life is enhanced by knowing some Spanish but it's not a survival thing.

Well that sure didn't work for me.  I had to learn enough Spanish to at least be able to communicate on a basic level and then to keep listening and learning more to avoid being completely helpless.  If you don't have someone close at hand to translate for you, I just don't know how you could cope over several years.  I know there are people who have been here for several years who hardly speak any Spanish.  I expect a lot of those people are the ones who leave.

You'd have to remain dependent upon others perpetually. Not exactly our cup of tea.
